Now, it explains what causes faith and understanding to arise. Like "What Arhats, these six," etc., from the beginning, it explains the differences arising from their lineage and practice, and the individual identification of the six. Like "Those with the nature of complete decline will surely not completely decline," etc., it explains the difference of the basis. These have already explained how the Sangha of Hearers is explained in the root verses and commentary of the Treasury of Knowledge. Because the Sangha of Solitary Buddhas has already been explained in detail elsewhere, it is not elaborated here for fear of many words. Second, there are four points to determine the meaning of these: the classification of obstacles to be abandoned, the classification of antidotes to be abandoned, the classification of fruits to be abandoned, and the classification of individuals who abide therein. First, in general, there are two types of abandonment: afflictive obscurations and cognitive obscurations, but since cognitive obscurations are not the subject here, they are not discussed. There are two views on afflictive obscurations: the view of the Treasury of Knowledge and the view of the Compendium of Topics. The first is that in the detailed explanation, the abandonment of seeing includes the five non-views and the five views, i.e., the ten abandonments of seeing the truth of suffering. The abandonment of seeing the truth of origin and the abandonment of seeing the truth of cessation each have seven types, excluding the view of self and the view of extremes. The abandonment of seeing the truth of the path has eight types, excluding the view of self and the view of extremes, so there are thirty-two abandonments of seeing in the desire realm. In the two upper realms, there are twenty-eight types, excluding the four types of anger, so there are eighty-eight abandonments of seeing. The abandonment of meditation includes four types in the desire realm: desire, anger, pride, and ignorance. In the two upper realms, there are three types excluding anger, so there are ten types. Thus, it is said that there are ninety-eight types of abandonment. When explaining the path and the individual, all the abandonments of seeing are summarized into four types: the abandonment of seeing the truth of suffering in the desire realm, etc., and the abandonment of seeing the truth of suffering in the upper realms, etc., for a total of eight types, and then the previous abandonment of meditation. Verse: In each ground, there are nine faults. The root verse and commentary divide each of the nine grounds from the desire realm to the peak of existence into nine types, such as the greatest of the great, and add them to the previous abandonment of seeing, saying that there are eighty-nine types of abandonment, which is the classification needed here. The second is the truth.

In the context of the truth of the origin of suffering, each truth has five non-visions and five visions, namely, forty to be abandoned by seeing in the desire realm. In the two upper realms, there are thirty-six each, excluding anger, totaling one hundred and twelve to be abandoned by seeing. Regarding what is to be abandoned by meditation, according to this system, there are also two with limits. Therefore, there are six in the desire realm, and in the two upper realms, there are five each, excluding their respective anger, totaling sixteen. At the time of the path of seeing, all that is to be abandoned by seeing, without distinguishing between the upper and lower realms, are summarized into four, such as what is to be abandoned by seeing suffering. At the time of the path of meditation, the classification of what is to be abandoned by meditation is the same as before, because this classification is needed here. Second, regarding the classification of antidotes, there are two types: antidotes to what is to be abandoned by seeing and antidotes to what is to be abandoned by meditation. The first, according to the Abhidharmakosha, the four to be abandoned by seeing that are included in the desire realm are abandoned in sequence by the four forbearance of dharma. The four to be abandoned by seeing that are included in the upper realms are abandoned in sequence by the four subsequent forbearance, thus there are eight uninterrupted paths. According to the Abhidharmasamuccaya, the four to be abandoned by seeing are abandoned in sequence by the four forbearance of dharma, thus there are four uninterrupted paths. Second, there are two ways of abandoning: simultaneous abandonment and gradual abandonment. The first is that after the path has attained complete subsequent wisdom, from the greatest of the great to be abandoned by meditation included in the desire realm, to the greatest of the great to be abandoned by meditation included in the peak of existence, the nine greatest of the great to be abandoned by meditation of the nine grounds are simultaneously abandoned by one uncontaminated uninterrupted path, from the smallest of the small to be abandoned by meditation of the nine grounds are simultaneously abandoned by one uncontaminated uninterrupted path, thus the path of meditation has nine uninterrupted paths. Second, there are two ways of abandoning: abandoning by worldly paths and abandoning by transcendental paths. The first is that from the nine afflictions included in the desire realm, they are abandoned by the approximation of the first dhyana, which has the aspect of tranquility and roughness, and even the nine afflictions to be abandoned by meditation of the realm of nothingness are abandoned by the approximation of the peak of existence. This way of abandoning exists before the path of seeing and also after the path of seeing. Here, it must be considered that there are twenty-four uninterrupted paths, because the afflictions of the lower ground are abandoned by the approximation that has the aspect of tranquility and roughness.
