the stage, the order, and what is attained. Therein lies the going. As it is said, in terms of the nature of the individual, there are the first two grounds, because the individual who practices is also established on the continuum of the eight aggregates of consciousness. In terms of how to enter, there are the three grounds of those with investigation and analysis, because that individual enters with both investigation and analysis up to the basic state of the first dhyana. In special times, it enters without investigation but with analysis alone. Above the second dhyana, it enters without both investigation and analysis. In terms of its stage, there are the four grounds of those with samadhi, because that individual has samadhi in the form and formless realms, does not have samadhi in the desire realm, and has no mind in the stages of the two attainments, etc., but has mind at other times. In terms of order, there are the three grounds of hearing, thinking, and meditating, because it is necessary to enter these three in sequence. In terms of what is attained, there are the three grounds of the hearers, etc., because the vehicle to be attained can be summarized into three categories. In terms of going therein, there are the remaining two, because such an individual ultimately goes to the two nirvanas by the three vehicles. Among the two Compendiums, the Compendium of Topics is a compendium of the common vehicle, because it explains the classification of external objects of meaning common to the Hearers, and the three natures common to the Mind-Only school, the classification of the eight aggregates of consciousness, etc. The Compendium of the Great Vehicle is a compendium of the uncommon Great Vehicle, because the ten aspects such as the place of knowledge explained therein are solely the establishment of the basis, path, and result according to the Mind-Only system. After that, the five treatises composed by Master Vasubandhu himself, and the three other explanations and commentaries, totaling eight treatises. Regarding the meaning of these, previous scholars divided them into three parts: showing the view of the Mind-Only school, its proof, and refuting the debates against it. The first part is the differentiation of the Thirty Verses, the Dharma.

and all the actions of sentient beings are summarized into three natures, in order to show the two kinds of selflessness. The second is: the commentary on the "Twenty Verses," in order to show the proof that all appearances are mind. The third is the remaining commentaries. If all appearances are mind, then the establishment of the five aggregates is unreasonable. If asked in this way, then in order to dispel this dispute, it is the commentary on the five aggregates. Karma is unreasonable. If asked in this way, then in order to dispel this dispute, it is the commentary on establishing karma. Hearing and speaking are unreasonable. If asked in this way, then in order to dispel this dispute, it is the discussion, reason, and nature. The three are unreasonable. If asked in this way, then in order to dispel this dispute, it is the explanation of the middle and the extremes. The twelve links of dependent origination are unreasonable. If asked in this way, then in order to dispel this dispute, it is the explanation of the Sutra on Dependent Origination. The practice of the six perfections for one's own benefit and the four ways of gathering disciples for the benefit of others are unreasonable. If asked in this way, then in order to dispel this dispute, it is the explanation of the "Ornament of the Sutras." That's what was said. However, if the author first considers such an intention and writes in this order, although such an establishment is reasonable, if he wants to write treatises that show this and that theme, and writes them separately, is there no need for such an establishment? Otherwise, what is the reason why the explanation of the "Ratnagotravibhāga" written by the noble Asanga, and the explanation of the "Discrimination of Dharma and Dharmata" written by Master Vasubandhu, are not counted as Maitreya's Dharma? With a smile, it seems that he is about to reveal the truth. Second, from those five dharmas, how to explain the Sutra is divided into two ways: how to explain the words, and how to explain the meaning. The first is divided into three: the necessity of the Sutra to be explained, how to explain it, and the necessity of combining it with the Sutra. First, the Sutra to be explained here is the uncommon collection of the Mahayana, which is divided into two types: Sutras of provisional meaning and Sutras of definitive meaning. The first is like the "Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra." The second is the "Prajnaparamita Sutra," the "Guhyasamaja Tantra," the "Tathagatagarbha Sutra," the "Daughter Ratna Sutra," the "Exposition of Higher Intentions Sutra," and the "Increasing and Decreasing Sutra."
