Since this is the order of the path, how does the Hearer's path of seeing realize the meaning of no arising and ceasing? The Hearer's path of seeing also directly realizes the selflessness of persons, therefore, the five aggregates of appropriation as the basis of imputation must be directly realized as unborn, so it is considered that one can see the meaning of dependent arising without arising and ceasing. If so, wouldn't it be impossible to realize the sixteen aspects such as impermanence? If you ask this, from the aspect of generating ascertainment of the sixteen aspects such as impermanence, it can be established as realization, but it is not the appearance in the face of that wisdom itself, just like the Mahayana's path of seeing. The venerable Maitreya also thinks this way, because the Mahayana's path of seeing, from the arising of meditative equipoise until it is not exhausted, directly sees the Dharmadhatu as being free from all elaborations, so the appearance of elaborations in the previous and subsequent moments is contradictory. Second, that path of seeing meditative equipoise is not the last moment's instant, but the instant of complete action, so in the duration of its arising, like the subsequent ascertainment of self-sufficient, or when a superior being sees with clairvoyance, there are many differences between the previous and subsequent moments. Those also depend on the number of subsequent ascertainments that are generated, and are established as sixteen moments. Considering this, in most of the sutras and treatises, it is said that there are sixteen moments. According to the sutras and treatises of this school, sixteen moments are mentioned at the time of combining the knowledge of the path, the knowledge of the basis, and the complete aspects. The view of the two, Arya and Singha, is also the same. In the Niralamba and the Great Commentary, when referring to the path of seeing of the base knowledge, the mention of a thousand Buddhas is said to be the proof that the sixteen moments of the path of seeing do not exceed the number, and in the second instance, in the Great Commentary, as previously explained, it is said that there are sixteen moments depending on the respective direct realizations. If one thinks that those sixteen moments are separated by way of opposites, and not the difference between previous and subsequent moments, if that is the case, then in general one can only say sixteen, and one cannot say sixteen moments, for example, the four collections of antidotes to be abandoned by seeing, and the four peak practices of the path of seeing, one cannot say moments.

Just as there is no difference in the word "four lines." The reason for establishing sixteen aspects such as suffering dharma-kṣānti in such sixteen moments of samāhita will be explained below. Third, all the paths of seeing above and below mentioned in this treatise are only the paths of seeing of the Mahāyāna. Therefore, all sixteen moments have no difference in the way of seeing the dharmadhātu, because the dharmadhātu has no parts, and there is no division of seeing and not seeing. After such samāhita arises, until the continuum is not exhausted, the dharmadhātu is free from all elaborations, and the two cognitions of the cognizer are extinguished, and there is no difference in the difference of the object and aspect. Therefore, with suffering dharma-kṣānti itself, one can directly see the peaceful dharmadhātu, but there is no difference in seeing the dharmadhātu of the four truths in sequence in this system. If it is said that the later moments are not the path of seeing, because there is no way to turn what has not been seen before into seeing. In response, the ṭīkā says: Because there are many superimpositions on the four truths, in the stage of samāhita, the ability to generate definite understanding that can eliminate these superimpositions is gradually obtained, and establishing obtaining the ability as realization, therefore, what has not been realized can be turned into realization, so it is reasonable to establish it as the path of seeing. In my opinion, because the stream of samāhita that first sees the dharmatā belongs to the category of the path of seeing, it is established as the path of seeing. For example, although the small dharma-śreṣṭha and the middle dharma-śreṣṭha are not the most excellent of all worldly dharmas, because they belong to its category, they are established as worldly dharma-śreṣṭha, that's what I think. Fourth, then what is the difference between the previous and subsequent moments? Because each moment individually obtains the ability to elicit subsequent definite understanding, it is not just a number such as the first moment and the second moment, but the differences of suffering dharma-kṣānti and dharma-jñāna, etc. are established for the four truths, which will be explained in detail below. The sixteen moments of the śrāvaka's path of seeing are the same in realizing the unborn, but in the stage of samāhita, the ability to elicit definite understanding of the sixteen aspects such as impermanence is sequential.
