Therefore, liberation from these two is profound because it is liberation from the false clinging to birth. The following seven should also be applied in the same way. Now, which scriptures explain these three aspects of signs, dharma, and meaning? "The path of meditation is profound," and so on, and "birth and cessation," and so on, explain the reason. "The sign of non-retrogression is the abode of the path of meditation for the wise," explains the object of knowledge, the object of proof, and the summary of meaning. The reason why these scriptures are not explicitly stated here is to avoid adding or subtracting too many verses, not because they are not understood, but because they can be understood from the implication of the scriptures of the paths of accumulation and seeing. For example, in the chapter on the aspects of the base knowledge and omniscient knowledge, the initial and final aspects are explicitly stated, but not in the chapter on the aspects of the path knowledge. Are the forty-four reasons stated here only for the sake of bodhisattvas who abide in the three paths of accumulation, seeing, and meditation? Or are they established according to the order of faculties? What is the nature of the reason itself among the three signs of result, nature, and non-observation? Does it become a reason for oneself, or does it become a reason for other disciples? For a disputant with reasoning, three doubts will arise. In response to the first question, some argue that although bodhisattvas who abide in the three paths of accumulation, seeing, and meditation are pervaded by non-retrogression, they are not pervaded by obtaining the sign of non-retrogression. Therefore, these reasons are for those with sharp faculties on the path of accumulation, those with medium faculties or higher on the path of seeing, and those with dull faculties or higher on the path of meditation. This view is not considered reasonable, because if there is a proof that those with medium faculties or lower on the path of accumulation and those with dull faculties on the path of seeing are non-retrogressive, then it contradicts not obtaining the sign. And if there is no proof, then the vow of non-retrogression becomes a pseudo-vow. Furthermore, if the reason for non-retrogression is obtained, then it is not pervaded by obtaining all the reasons stated at that time. Moreover, the main aspect of the sign of non-retrogression is emptiness combined with great compassion, which is the equipoise mainly arising from meditation. If this is not obtained, then it is impossible for a bodhisattva to abide in the three paths of accumulation, seeing, and meditation.

It is for this reason. If one attains realization in equipoise, but does not obtain the special conduct of body and speech in the subsequent attainment that arises from it, and thinks that there is no fault, then the yogis' saying is: "Except for the need to subdue sentient beings, everything must be in accordance with realization." Thus, it is understood to contradict what was said. Therefore, all Bodhisattvas who abide in the three paths of accumulation, seeing, and meditation have obtained the reason for non-retrogression. Because there is no Bodhisattva who abides in the three paths of accumulation, seeing, and meditation who has not obtained any one of the reasons stated here, because each one can establish non-retrogression. Some say that if the exhaustion of doubt and the exhaustion of unfavorable conditions can establish non-retrogression, then the Shravaka Arhats should also become faulty for obtaining the sign of non-retrogression. Saying this is like saying that oily nails are an auspicious sign, and that applying oil to the nails becomes obtaining an auspicious sign. Do not show signs of coarse wisdom. The answer to the second doubt is that, as stated in the root text of the treatise, only non-retrogression is made the object to be established, and the reason is established as stated, it is a non-apprehension reason. In short, the great Bodhisattva who possesses those aspects, those signs, and those characteristics should be regarded as non-retrogressing from unsurpassed Bodhi. In the commentary on this, the Great Commentary says: "The effect is born from the cause of ability, whatever is inferred according to it, because it does not depend on other meanings, it is said to be self-nature." It should be understood in this way, by means of a feasible inference. The "Condensed Commentary: Easy to Understand" also quotes that teaching and says: "The sign stated here should also be known by the reason stated." As it is said, it is the reason of self-nature that can establish the arising of the fruit from the sign of the complete collection of causes. In the Small Commentary, it says: "Thus, if one correctly obtains these sixteen moments that include patience and wisdom, then because it can generate the results that are in accordance with the pure world, which is included in the subsequent mind with the appearance of grasping and attachment to the object and the subject, such as the reversal of perceptions of form, etc., the Bodhisattva
