It is not cultivated in the first ground and above, because there it has already transcended the stage of the Lesser Vehicle. It is said that there, the realization of the selflessness of persons is not continuously cultivated. Some say that it should only be cultivated on the path of joining of the Great Vehicle. Then, what are the practices of cultivating these? Because it is said in the scriptures, "It is the path of joining." In the first case, the wisdom that realizes the selflessness of the base should be cultivated below the first ground, because it should be cultivated in order to transcend the stage of the Lesser Vehicle, and that transcendence is obtained from the first ground. The pervasion is accepted. If the first reason is not established, then the practice of the base wisdom should be a type of realization that realizes the selflessness of persons, because it should be cultivated in order to transcend the stage of the Lesser Vehicle, because that is not established. If it is accepted, then the clinging to the characteristics of the three, base, path, and result, should be the clinging to the self of persons, because of that acceptance. If it is accepted, then the base wisdom in the continuum of the Hearer Arhat should abandon it. Also, in the first ground and above, the contradictory side in the case of "the contradictory side of conduct" should not exist, because there is no practice of base wisdom above that. The pervasion is accepted, because in explaining the contradictory side, it says "the contradictory side of conduct," and in explaining the antidote, it says "the practice of abandoning conduct." In the second case, the entering of the abandonment of cultivation of the Great Vehicle, the path of accumulation of the practice of the path of cultivation of the Great Vehicle that has become the antidote to the clinging to apprehended objects, should only be cultivated on the path of joining of the Great Vehicle, because there the name of the path of joining is mentioned. The instructions of the Great Vehicle should only be listened to on the path of accumulation of the Great Vehicle, because in the Meaningful Explanation, it says that when a beginner obtains such instructions, a branch of ascertainment will necessarily arise, so it is said to be a branch of ascertainment. The pervasion of both cases is accepted. The second case is that, in general, the practice of base wisdom only exists in a continuum with an end, because in a continuum with an end, there is the latent tendency of clinging to the reality of the base dharma. The antidote to coarse clinging to characteristics needs to be cultivated up to the seventh ground, because below the seventh ground, manifest clinging to characteristics may arise, and that is not exhausted.

When it comes to 'ogs and rab rdzogs.' The definitions of the three characteristics are, in order: a phenomenon that is imputed because of understanding it as existing when it does not actually exist; dependent arising that arises due to the influence of one's own causes and conditions and other factors; and whatever is found by the ultimate reasoning valid cognition, which is said to be the ultimate reality of an object. In the first case, the object as the subject is what is to be expressed, because of that characteristic, i.e., because the basis is established. If it is considered fundamental, then it should not be, because it is other-dependent. In the second case, the Dharmakaya as the subject is other-dependent, because of that characteristic, i.e., because it is dependent arising that arises from meditating on the combination of one's own causes and conditions. If it is considered fundamental, then it should not be, because it is permanent. In the third case, the nature of a vase as the subject is that characteristic, because it is what is to be expressed. If it is considered so, then it should not be, because it is not found by the ultimate reasoning valid cognition, i.e., because its nature is not established. These are not elaborated here because they are intended to be explained elsewhere. When it comes to the truth of suffering, etc. The sixteen moments of the Mahayana path of seeing, the knowledge of endurance, as the subject, are the Mahayana path of seeing explained from the time of explaining the basis of knowledge, i.e., because it is the direct realization of the Mahayana truth that is free from the thirty-two imputations. Some say that that, as the subject, should meditate on form, etc., as impermanent, because it meditates after preventing form, etc., from being permanent. If it is admitted, then it should not be free from the thirty-two imputations. If it is said that that, as the subject, should meditate on the extreme of annihilation, because it meditates after preventing the extreme of permanence. Furthermore, the wisdom of direct realization of freedom from elaboration, which is free from the four extremes of elaboration, as the subject, should meditate on the clinging to truth, because it meditates after preventing the clinging to existence. The opponent says that that, as the subject, you do not possess the three types of realization, because you are not of the sixteen aspects of impermanence, etc. If it is asked, if the wisdom of direct realization of the three selflessnesses, then it must be of the sixteen aspects of impermanence, etc., if the wisdom possesses the three types of realization, then it must be so. If it is admitted, then the cessation attainment that prevents all elaborations in the continuum of the eighth-ground bodhisattva, as the subject, is so, because it is a person.
