For the sake of faith and understanding. Second, among these, the Mahayana lineage is the most excellent, because it is the cause of virtue that abandons the two obscurations, the cause of all qualities such as strength, the cause of the great meaning of self-nature, and the cause of the inexhaustible root of virtue even in the absence of remainder. Third, the object to be expressed is indicated by "self-nature and growth," and the characteristics are indicated by "it is the basis and the dependent, existence and non-existence." The meaning of the word is indicated by "should be known as the meaning of liberation." The characteristics of the self-nature abiding lineage: it is the basis of the qualities that depend on itself, and the lineage that exists in the nature of the cause and does not exist in the nature of the result. The characteristics of the growing and transforming lineage: it is the lineage that depends on the self-nature abiding lineage and exists in the nature of both cause and effect. In terms of meaning: the Sanskrit word for lineage is "Gotra" (藏文,梵文天城体,梵文罗马拟音,汉语字面意思), adding "Gulaṇa" becomes "Guṇa" (藏文,梵文天城体,梵文罗马拟音,汉语字面意思), meaning virtue. Separating "Ta" and "Ra" becomes "Tāra" (藏文,梵文天城体,梵文罗马拟音,汉语字面意思), meaning liberation. Therefore, relying on virtue to liberate from samsara is called virtue liberation. Fourth, even before entering the Mahayana path, there are the qualities of thought, naturally having great compassion, faith and understanding of the Mahayana Dharma, the qualities of entering, being able to endure the hardships of benefiting others, and correctly practicing generosity and other virtuous deeds. Fifth, there are two types of lineages: definite and indefinite, and two types: able to be taken away by conditions and unable to be taken away. The latter two are the meaning of the former two. Sixth, constantly being accustomed to afflictions, associating with bad friends, being deprived of enjoyment, and being dominated by others. Seventh, even if one falls into the lower realms due to the power of doing a little non-virtue, one falls after a long time, and can quickly be liberated from it, experiencing small suffering there, and maturing sentient beings with a sense of renunciation. Eighth, the Mahayana lineage has the same nature as a gold mine, just as a gold mine produces a lot of gold, brightness, without rust and other impurities, and can be processed, it can produce immeasurable virtuous deeds such as generosity, the discrimination of wisdom, and the abandonment of impurity.

And, because it is the place where immeasurable powers such as clairvoyance arise. Ninth, it is the same as the source of jewels, just as from it arise those endowed with the kinds of jewels, perfect in color, perfect in shape, and perfect in power, so too, it is the place where great Bodhi, great mirror-like wisdom, great samadhi such as heroic conduct, and many benefits for sentient beings arise. Fourth, according to the Madhyamaka school, there are four: the basis, the characteristic, the division, and the way of becoming a lineage. First, Kharakpa Jangchub Zhonnu said: The mind with defilements, just the knowing and clarity alone, is the self-existing lineage, but its dharmata is not, otherwise the dharmata would have no division of different kinds, then the dharmata of pots, felts, etc., would also be the self-existing lineage. His disciple Lodro Tsungme said: The mind with defilements is the self-existing lineage, as Nagarjuna said: From the mind of virtue and goodness, the Buddha arises, I prostrate to that mind of mine. And, the great Brahmin Saraha said: The nature of mind alone is the seed of all, from which samsara and nirvana arise, which grants the desired fruit, I prostrate to the mind like a wish-fulfilling jewel. Its dharmata is also the self-existing lineage, as the Dharmadhatu Stotra says: That which becomes the cause of samsara, having purified it, that pure one is nirvana. The view of the ṭīkā (टीका,ṭīkā,commentary) also agrees with this, the reason is: if the mind with defilements is not the self-existing lineage, then its dharmata is also not the self-existing lineage, because when the two become without defilements, they are the same in becoming the self-benefiting Dharmakaya. The scriptural authority is, in the Uttaratantra: Seeing this lineage element like honey. And, in its extensive explanation: The uncontaminated wisdom that beings have is like the essence of honey. So they think. Again, some say that only the dharmata of the mind with defilements is it, as the sutra says: Subhuti, there are no traces of birds in the sky, nor are they found. Likewise, the meaning of the words of the Bodhisattva is not, nor is it found.
