For example, between the mind that grasps as true a phenomenon that is not fundamentally established, and the mind that grasps as true a phenomenon that is fundamentally established, the former is not the conceptual thought spoken of here, because it is the grasping of self in relation to the object. In the latter case, the mind that grasps as true the object to be enjoyed and the food to be eaten is the object-grasping conceptual thought, and the mind that grasps as true the enjoyer and the eater is the subject-grasping conceptual thought. Furthermore, in the case of subject-grasping conceptual thought, for example, the mind that manifestly grasps as true the negation of the negation, which is the negation of self as being one, the cause, the seer, etc., on top of the basis of imputation, the aggregates, is substance-grasping conceptual thought; and the mind that grasps as true the self as merely imputed is imputation-grasping conceptual thought. Now, the mind that grasps a person as true, the subject, should not be subject-grasping conceptual thought, because it is not the conceptual thought spoken of here. The predicate is real. The sign is accepted. That is because it is a true grasping of a person, and therefore it is an affliction obscuration. Three statements. Furthermore, substance-grasping conceptual thought, the subject, should not be the mind of true grasping of the negation of the negation, which is the negation of one, etc., on top of the basis of imputation, the aggregates, because it is the way of grasping that grasps as true the basis of imputation that grasps a person as substantially existent. The sign is manifestly real. To say that the mind that grasps a person as merely imputed is imputation-grasping conceptual thought contradicts one's own words, because if one grasps a person as merely imputed, then grasping it as true is contradictory. For such crude talk to be known as subtle reasoning, alas, this world is confused! Some say that the definitions of object-grasping conceptual thought and subject-grasping conceptual thought spoken of here are, respectively: a clinging mind that has the aspect of either negating or affirming, focusing on the object to be grasped, and focusing on the subject to be grasped. And the definitions of the four, such as the thoroughly afflicted object-grasping conceptual thought, are: focusing on the object to be grasped of the thoroughly afflicted, etc., and so on. Now, the path of joining that realizes that the object to be grasped is without inherent existence, the subject, should be the object-grasping conceptual thought spoken of here, because it has that definition, that is, a clinging mind that has the aspect of negating, focusing on the object to be grasped, because it is a clinging mind that has the aspect of realizing that it is without inherent existence, focusing on that. The path of joining that realizes that the grasper is without inherent existence, the subject, should be subject-grasping conceptual thought, thoroughly

Taking the joining path, etc., which contemplates the non-inherent existence of the object of affliction, as the subject, the four subsequent characteristics are compared. Some say that the characteristics of the apprehended concept and the apprehending concept are, respectively: the clinging mind that establishes the manner of apprehension by focusing on the object of apprehension and by focusing on the object of apprehension. It is said that the all-afflictive apprehended concept and so on are compared. The mind that appears to be attached to the enjoyer by focusing on the path of seeing, as a subject, should be the apprehended concept. Because of that characteristic, that is, whatever focuses on the object of apprehension, because of the latter. It should be the former, because the mind that appears to be attached to the pure object by focusing on the path of seeing, because it focuses on the object of apprehension, that is, because the path of seeing is said to be the object when the pure object is apprehended. Again, the mind that appears to be attached to the pure object by focusing on the path of seeing, as a subject, should be the apprehending concept. Because of that characteristic. It can be known by the previous proof. Secondly, the characteristics of the two concepts mentioned here are, respectively: the obscuration of knowledge, which is the main object to be abandoned on the bodhisattva path, whatever is the manner of apprehension of the object's side, which is divided into object and subject by focusing on the object, and whatever is the manner of apprehension belonging to the subject's side, which is divided into those two by focusing on the object. The characteristics of the concept based on the ground and the concept based on its antidote are, respectively: whatever is the manner of apprehension belonging to the side of what should be abandoned, which is divided into what should be taken and what should be abandoned by focusing on the object, and whatever is the manner of apprehension belonging to the side of what should be taken, which is divided into those two by focusing on it. The first has the all-afflictive apprehended concept and the reversing apprehended concept. The latter has the pure apprehended concept and the entering apprehended concept. The apprehending concept has the substantial apprehending concept and the imputed apprehending concept, respectively: whatever is the manner of apprehension that apprehends as true by focusing on the person who is substantially existent, and whatever is the manner of apprehension that appears to be attached to mere imputation by focusing on the person who is imputed. Secondly, the detailed explanation is divided into two apprehended concepts, and the two apprehending concepts are explained in detail.
