Because division without a basis is impossible. Some say that knowable things are not the basis of division, because ultimate truth is not knowable, which is unreasonable. If it is not knowable, then it is impossible to determine and realize it through hearing and thinking. Some say that truth is the basis of division, which is unreasonable, because if it is conventional truth, it cannot be completely generalized as truth. Therefore, merely dependent origination, or merely dharma, or merely knowable things, can be regarded as the basis of division, because there are two different views on this. The second is conventional truth and ultimate truth. The third question is, are the two truths one or different? The *Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra* says that there are four faults in being different and four faults in being one. The first is that ultimate truth is not the nature of appearance, the realization of ultimate truth cannot cut off the clinging to reality in appearance, the conventional truth cannot be found by reason, therefore ultimate truth is not it, and defilement and purification occur simultaneously. The first three are easy to understand, and the meaning of the last one is that if the two truths are separate, even if ultimate truth is realized, the clinging to reality in conventional truth cannot be cut off. Therefore, focusing on conventional truth will increase defilement, and focusing on ultimate truth will increase purification, so the two will increase simultaneously. The four faults of being one are that seeing conventional truth will see ultimate truth, just as focusing on conventional truth will increase defilement, focusing on ultimate truth will also increase defilement, there is no other ultimate truth to be sought through hearing and thinking apart from conventional truth, just as conventional truth has various elaborations, ultimate truth also has various elaborations. Regarding these meanings, some Tibetans say that this is criticizing the difference in essence and the identity in reverse, therefore, the two truths are the same in essence and different in reverse. The *Madhyamakāvatāra* says: "It is different from conventional truth, but it is not its object, conventional truth is explained as emptiness, because without it, it will not necessarily arise." Just like conditioned phenomena and impermanence. If you say that, it is unreasonable, the same essence and different reverse is the term of logicians, which is not allowed in this system, just like conditioned phenomena and impermanence, the same essence.
