Being in the lineage of experiencing, and by analogy to another lineage, these are respectively the characteristics of the male and female faculties. The mental factors that experience suffering, included by the mind consciousness, and those that are unpleasant, the mental factors that experience peacefully, these are respectively the characteristics of the faculties of painful and pleasant feeling. The feeling that arises in the rotation of the mind's name and form consciousness, experiencing peacefully, which is the third dhyana belonging to one's own school, and not included by the earth element, this is the characteristic of feeling agreeable. Again, the feeling that arises in that rotation, the feeling of experiencing painfully, this is the characteristic of the faculty of unpleasantness. The feeling that does not experience any peaceful or painful feeling belonging to one's own school, this is the characteristic of the faculty of equanimity. If the five factors of faith, etc., mentioned here are established as faculties merely from the aspect of being completely purified, then from the path of accumulation onwards, the mental factors of having faith in virtuous objects by one's own power, etc., are established as above. Again, if these are established as the five faculties within the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, then it should be established as follows: From the heat stage onwards, which faculty is the mental factor of having faith in virtuous objects, which faculty is the mental factor of delighting in them, which faculty is the mental factor of not forgetting their object aspects, which faculty is the mental factor of focusing single-pointedly on their objects, which faculty is the mental factor of discriminating their objects, these are respectively the characteristics of the five faculties of faith, etc. According to the Abhidharmakosha, the nine faculties of faith, etc., which are the nature of the path of seeing, are summarized in whatever way is appropriate, and the nature of the path of cultivation and the path of no more learning, etc., by analogy, is the characteristic of the latter three faculties. The basis of the characteristic is that each of the faith, etc., that is the nature of that path, is also the omniscient faculty that does not know everything, etc., and is established as the nature of that path. If the nine factors of faith, etc., are taken as the basis for imputation, and established as the imputed existent imputed on that, then it is not the view of the Abhidharmakosha. In the root verses of the Abhidharmakosha it says, "In the paths of seeing, cultivation, and no more learning there are nine, three faculties." And in its commentary it says, "These nine faculties, in the three paths, each have three faculties." Because it is said in this way. This is also said according to whatever is appropriate.

Since it is impossible for the nine lords of the earth to gather at once, it is also impossible for the three faculties of feeling to gather at once. According to the Samgraha and the Compendium, the pure faculties included in the first fifteen moments of the path of application and the path of seeing are the faculties of unknowing all-knowing, and the pure faculties from the sixteenth moment to the last moment of the path of cultivation are said to be the faculties of all-knowing. Secondly, as stated in the Treasury of Knowledge: "Except for the stainless, it belongs to the desire realm. The faculties of male and female and suffering, except for the form realm belonging to the form, and also except for the pleasure, it belongs to the formless realm." It means that what is included in the desire realm, except for the last three, there are nineteen kinds. What is included in the form realm, in addition to those three, plus the two faculties of male and female, and the two of suffering and displeasure, a total of seven, there are fifteen kinds. What is included in the formless realm, on top of those seven, plus the five of the eye faculty, etc., the two of pleasure and joy, a total of fourteen, there are eight kinds. In the Compendium it says: "Similar to others." The faculty of suffering is included in the form realm, so the form realm includes sixteen kinds. Secondly, how to prevent attachment to it, there are three parts: the statement in the sutras, the explanation in the commentaries, and the explanation of its meaning. The first part, in the Eight Thousand Verses, says: "One should not be diligent in the combination and subsequent combination of the words of strife. One should not be diligent in the combination and subsequent combination of villages, cities, towns, regions, places, and the surroundings of the king's palace. One should not be diligent in the combination and subsequent combination of the words of self. One should not be diligent in the combination and subsequent combination of the words of ministers and great ministers." The second part is, in the root it says: "With the faculties and so on included, the combination and subsequent combination of war, each prevents the dwelling." And, in the Meaningful Explanation it says: "Since what is to be taken and what is to be grasped should be abandoned, the faculties and, the war of cities etc. as the basis, as before, prevent the dwelling of the combination and subsequent combination." And, in the Great Commentary it says: "Since what is to be taken and what is to be grasped should be abandoned, the side of discord and hostility should be killed."
