From the perspective of (essence), it is one instant, because this one instant of wisdom acts simultaneously on all four truths. From the perspective of seeing (the path), it is also one instant, because the nature of the four truths is purely pure, and there is no distinction of different kinds in the Dharma nature, so there are no two parts of seeing and not seeing. From the perspective of individual manifestation, it is sixteen instants, because there are sixteen superimpositions of holding to wrong views on the Dharma nature of the four truths, so in order to eliminate these, wisdom must also enter the same number. Therefore, the system of establishing entry (into the path) and abiding (in the fruit) is also very reasonable. The second view is that in the 'Commentary on Valid Cognition' it says: 'By meaning, self-nature, essence is one, self-nature is directly accomplished, what else is to be realized by other valid cognition? What other unseen part is there?' In this way, this one instant of wisdom directly realizes the Dharma nature of the four truths simultaneously, so some say that from the perspective of individual manifestation, it is also one instant. Like this, in the two views, the teacher refutes the latter view, thinking that it is unreasonable to establish the first fifteen instants of the seeing path as a person abiding in (the seeing path), and to establish the sixteenth instant as a person abiding in the fruit. Because the Mahayana seeing path, even from the perspective of individual manifestation, is one instant. Therefore, he thinks that the former view is his own tenet. So, what is the meaning of sixteen instants from the perspective of individual manifestation? For the Dharma nature of the four truths, the sixteen decisive wisdoms that arise to eliminate the sixteen superimpositions of holding to wrong views are obtained sequentially in the state of subsequent attainment, so the ability to generate these (decisive wisdoms) must arise sequentially in the state of equipoise. The sixteen instants of equipoise that obtain the sixteen abilities are established as the sixteen instants of knowable and known (patience and supreme positions). If you think that all the later fifteen instants will become not the seeing path, then there is no fault. Because although you cannot newly see (the Dharma nature) that you have not seen before, you can newly realize (the Dharma nature) that you have not realized before. Because when you obtain the ability to generate the decisive wisdom that eliminates the superimpositions of holding to wrong views, in that state you realize its Dharma nature.

It must be established here, because subsequent moments can obtain the abilities that have not yet been obtained. Therefore, among the sixteen moments of equipoise, only the first moment is the immediate path, because it is the peak application of the path of seeing that directly abandons what is to be abandoned by seeing. Considering this, in both the root and commentary of the peak application of the path of seeing, it is said that only the forbearance that arises in the first moment is the peak application of the path of seeing. Some say that the teacher's view is that there is only one moment of equipoise, and in the post-attainment state, the sixteen realizations arise sequentially, so the first fifteen are the entering stage, and the sixteenth is the abiding stage, and it is established as the fruition stage. If this is the case, then it is not appropriate to establish the person who abides in the path of seeing as the entering and abiding stages, because these sixteen moments of realization are not the path of seeing. If someone says: There is no fault, because it is established by the name of the path of seeing. Then, is the person who abides in the equipoise of the path of seeing the entering stage or the fruition stage? If it is the former, then the direct realization of the entering stage should have sixteen moments of wisdom. If it is the latter, then the entering stage should occur under the fruition stage. Fourth, analyzing whether the post-attainment exists. Dartika Pa says: After the first arising of the Mahayana path of seeing, all the wisdom before the arising of the wisdom of equipoise that makes one directly see the nature of reality, which is naturally pure, and become accustomed to the ordinary state, is included in the Mahayana path of seeing. If this is the case, then the first moment of wisdom of the second ground should not be the wisdom that performs the three functions of mind, measurement, and discrimination on the meaning that has already been seen in the three states of combining the path of seeing and the path of cultivation, because the post-attainment wisdom of the first ground is not the Mahayana path of cultivation. If it is admitted, then from the section "measuring and determining the path of cultivation," it should become the path of cultivation that is not directly shown. Furthermore, in the post-attainment state of the first ground, it is impossible for the conventional consciousness that arises from the extreme of establishing the truth to manifest, because it is not the Mahayana path of cultivation. This is pervasive, because in the Compendium it is said: In the path of seeing, establishing the truth, obtaining the conventional consciousness that arises from the extreme of direct realization.
