It is not clinging, but like images, things will naturally enter into emptiness. In this way, all things enter into emptiness, so nothing will be clung to. Because there is no clinging, there will be no confusion about anything. Without confusion, there will be no action. As the "Four Hundred Verses" says: "If one sees dependent origination, then ignorance will not arise, therefore, one should strive to proclaim this Dharma." And as the "Entering the Way of the Bodhisattva" says: "Here, the cause of suffering, clinging to reality, should be stopped." These are all valid because they initially prevent the first extreme view. Second, those who wish to attain enlightenment must refute reality. To attain the enlightenment of a Shravaka, one must refute reality on top of the aggregates of appropriation. To attain the enlightenment of a Pratyekabuddha, one must refute the reality of external objects and all defiled dharmas, etc., on top of that. To attain the enlightenment of the Mahayana, one must refute the elaboration of all four extremes. The reason for this is that if one does not understand that the aggregates of appropriation are unreal, one will not realize the selflessness of the person. If one does not understand that the apprehended external objects and all defiled apprehensions, etc., are unreal, one will not achieve the characteristics of the path of the Pratyekabuddha. If one does not stop the elaboration of the four extremes, one will not achieve the uncommon view of the Mahayana. If one looks at the treatises of Maitreya and Nagarjuna with eyes that are not covered by the darkness of wrong views, these will clearly appear. Second, the reasoning for refuting the last three extreme views also has four aspects as before. First, with what kind of reasoning is it refuted? The reasoning for refuting the second extreme view is, as the "Root Verses on the Middle Way" says: "Since real things do not exist, what non-real things would there be?" And as the "Refutation of Disputes" says: "Since there is nothing to be refuted, I refute nothing." And as the "Two Truths" says: "Since there is nothing to be refuted, it is clear that there is no refutation." And as the "Garland of Jewels" says: "Since there is no birth, etc., there is no non-birth, etc." and so on. The reasoning for refuting the third extreme view is both of the reasonings mentioned earlier. The reasoning for refuting the fourth extreme view is

If one apprehends something that is neither truly existent nor truly non-existent, then one will abide by focusing on the middle way that abandons both extremes. However, one should not abide by focusing on that either, because it is not established. And if it were established, that would also become an extreme. As it says in the Samadhiraja Sutra: 'Emptiness and non-emptiness are also extremes, purity and impurity are also extremes. Thus, the wise, having abandoned both extremes, should not abide even in the middle.' Therefore, if someone asks, isn't it contradictory to say that one realizes the middle way that abandons both extremes? When analyzed with reason, if one does not see any of the four extremes of existence, non-existence, etc., it is called realizing the middle way, realizing reality, but this is just a name. It is not that a middle way that abandons both extremes is established, and then one should cling to it. If one clings to it in that way, as it says in the sutra: 'O Kasyapa, it is easy to see the self of a person as Mount Meru, but not so for those with pride in emptiness.' Nagarjuna also repeatedly explained in places that disparage clinging to emptiness. If that is the case, wouldn't it be no different from ordinary worldly people? It is not so, because they have not searched and have not found, while this is because after searching, one has not found any dharma to cling to, so it is said. This is what Jetsun Drakpa Gyaltsen said. Nowadays, those who make a mess of the Madhyamaka view, when meditating on the view, first identify the object to be negated, and then after negating it, identify that this is the object that has been negated, and then meditate. For example, just as when searching for a thief, one must identify that this is the thief before one can catch him. That is what they say, and they even give examples. For these, from the pure words of the Buddha and the treatises, it is like medicine that has not been digested and has turned into poison, taking jewels from the head of a poisonous snake without a mantra, thinking one has wealth when one has none, thinking one has a name when one has none, etc., they are rebuked with many examples, so not to mention clinging to them, even hearing about them, one should cover one's ears. Second, what is the basis for negation? It is the basis for negating the first extreme. On whatever basis, once the first extreme has been negated, if one clings to the latter three extremes, that should also be negated, and one will eventually fall into the play of the four extremes.
