For ignorance that clings to reality, the aspect of things appearing as true in terms of their own way of abiding, which can be analyzed or is not deceptive, is called conventional truth. For the subsequent wisdom of the noble ones, the aspect of appearing as false like an illusion is divided into merely conventional. As it says in the Engaging in the Bodhisattva Deeds, "False phenomena are conventional." In the commentary, it says, "Thus, the Bhagavan temporarily taught conventional truth and merely conventional. For ordinary beings, what is ultimate truth is merely conventional for those who have the perception of the noble ones, and its nature, emptiness, is their ultimate truth." The second is true conventional and false conventional. Here, we present the view of the Svatantrika, the view of the Prasangika, and the establishment of these two as the most supreme. The first is what was said by the master Yeshe Nyingpo (Jñānagarbha): "That which is devoid of the meaning of analysis, and which arises dependently, is considered true conventional. That which is not true is completely imputed." And, "Although appearances are similar, they accomplish their purpose. Because of being able and not being able, the distinction of conventional is made as true and not true." Thus, he taught the two differences of true and false. Regarding the meaning of these, some early Tibetan scholars explain that the meaning of being able to accomplish a purpose has three characteristics: being devoid of analysis, arising dependently, and appearing similarly. The meaning of not being able to accomplish a purpose is the opposite of these three. Some also explain that what appears and is able to accomplish a purpose, like the moon in the sky, is true conventional; what appears but is not able to accomplish a purpose, like the moon in water, is false conventional. In short, conventional refers only to what appears in the delusion of worldly people. Among these, true conventional has four characteristics: appearing similarly, being able to accomplish a purpose, being produced by causes and conditions, and being devoid of analysis. Among these, appearing similarly means that the appearance of the container and its contents appears similarly to everyone from wise scholars to foolish cowherds. Being able to accomplish a purpose means that all things are able to accomplish their respective purposes, such as the earth serving as the basis for all beings.

That which is produced by causes and conditions refers to all things that arise from various causes and conditions, such as the four elements of earth, water, fire, and wind. If analyzed, they are devoid of inherent existence because they conform to the four great reasonings of Madhyamaka: the reasoning of dependent origination, the reasoning of the diamond sliver, the reasoning of existence and non-existence of arising and ceasing, and the reasoning of one and many being separate. As the scriptures say. These two (referring to the ultimate truth and the conventional truth) arise from the two truths, because they have the nature as they appear, so they cannot be analyzed. If analyzed, the meaning will change, thus causing harm. It seems that it can be understood in this way. But these two views are not the intention of the master, because they mix the former and latter treatises, attributing the function of the latter (the characteristic of being able to function) to the former, thus regarding the difference between right and wrong as one. However, the master believes that the former treatise elucidates the characteristics of the Madhyamaka's own school, and the latter elucidates the characteristics of the two truths relative to the world. If the function of the latter (the characteristic of being able to function) is explained by the former, then the meaning of "only is" in the commentary of the former treatise is explained as being able to function, so explaining "the characteristic of being able to function" as "being able to function" is also irrelevant. Therefore, the master's view is that in the two differences of right and wrong, the meaning of the former treatise is devoid of the meaning of analysis, and it is able to function, arises dependently, and is in accordance with the commentary. The one that possesses four characteristics by supplementing is the correct conventional truth. This is because it is the method of realizing the true reality, so it is called the correct conventional truth, not the one that appears to be true relative to the world. As the two truths say: Without the ladder of the correct conventional truths, wanting to ascend to the correct palace is not suitable for the wise. The wrong conventional truth is the opposite of the previous four characteristics, and is the true birth, etc., fabricated by the clinging to truth. Its literal meaning is also contrary to the method of realizing the true reality, so it is called the wrong conventional truth. The latter treatise distinguishes the right and wrong of being able to function and not being able to function relative to the world, not the characteristics of its own school.
