Even non-existence is shown by the word 'non-existence' itself. Thus, it speaks of the way of expressing through words. And that Dharma which transcends metaphors is also clearly shown by metaphors. Thus, it speaks of the way of symbolizing through metaphors. Showing that freedom from elaboration (spros bral) is the source of qualities is not to say that it should be done, because all faults arise from focusing solely on elaboration. Therefore, not seeing any elaboration, it is named as the fruit for averting faults. And the qualities that are obtained also arise from possessing equality with the wisdom of the cessation of elaboration, therefore it is named as the fruit of freedom from elaboration. In that case, it is to abandon the thought that these are similar to the qualities of a rabbit's horn, because there is no such intention or reason for it. Third, the way of designating freedom from elaboration as the basis of the ultimate truth is that, although it is such that nothing is established, it is designated as a basis by imputing it for the purpose of the disciples realizing non-establishment itself, but a basis that has become the basis of a stable characteristic is impossible. The meaning it symbolizes is also designated as the companion of conventional truth through the three terms of imputation: characteristic, symbolized object, and basis, through the door of three terms. As the sutra says: Even though there is no characteristic or basis, it is designated by these. So it is said. Second, the detailed divisions of the symbolized object are two: the division into two truths and the individual divisions of the two truths. The first has six: the basis of what is divided, the nature of what divides, the reason for what divides, the meaning of how it is divided, the definite number of how many are divided, and the explanation of the words of each division. First, Patsab Lotsawa said: 'Just knowable things are the basis of division.' Zapa said that this is not so, because knowable things include both things and non-things, and both of these are conventional truths, and also because ultimate truth is not knowable, because the Sutra of Meeting Father and Son says: 'What is ultimate truth is unspeakable, not knowable, not discernible.' Having refuted this, it is reasonable to establish only truth as the basis of division, because in mistaken appearance, truth is conventional, and in rational appearance, truth is ultimate. Thus, he established his own system.

In this regard, it is unreasonable to refute the previous view. Because the distinction into two truths is when teaching disciples through conventional terms, at that time, in conventional terms, there needs to be a meaning expressed by words, and it needs to be taken as an object by consciousness. Moreover, this seems to contradict the tenets of our own school, because the conventional truth is not real. Gyalwa said that merely the absence of inherent existence is the basis for distinction, because the conventional is distinguished from merely the absence of inherent existence in the ultimate sense, and the ultimate truth is distinguished from the absence of inherent existence in both truth and falsehood. But this is unreasonable, just as using the absence of horns on a rabbit as the basis for distinguishing between permanence and impermanence, the basis for distinction and the things being distinguished do not correspond. In 'Thubpa Gongsal' it says: Some say that there is no basis for distinguishing between the two truths, because there is no common essence between the two. This statement is unreasonable, even if there is no common essence in meaning, but from the perspective of excluding others, merely a consciousness in name does not conflict, because the teacher Chandrakirti said in the commentary on the 'Sixty Stanzas on Reasoning': Establishing the two truths is established in dependence on the minds of worldly people. As it is said, it seems that only consciousness is considered as the basis for distinction, just as in worldly terms, merely the conventional itself is also distinguished into true and untrue from the way it appears to consciousness, although from the perspective of the actual situation of the object, there are no two truths, but from the perspective of consciousness seeing the actual situation and not seeing the actual situation, it is distinguished into two truths, the meaning of which seems very good. Therefore, although from the actual situation itself, there are no names and referents, and no basis for distinction and distinction, etc., but in conventional truth, it is falsely established, and when teaching disciples, just as there are things to be distinguished, there must also be a basis for distinction, so there is no conflict in taking merely dependent origination as the basis for distinction, because the meaning of dependent origination refers to emptiness and arising from conditions. Even if only knowable things are taken as the basis for distinction, there is no conflict, because in the 'Sutra of Meeting Father and Son' it says: The things to be known are also exhausted here, namely the conventional truth and the ultimate truth. As it is said. If only the expressed meaning of the scriptures is taken as the basis for distinction, then it is very reasonable, because the sutra says: The knower of the world, without hearing from others, teaches by these two truths. And the 'Root Wisdom' says: Buddhas.
