There are two schools of thought: the school of and the school of Dignāga and Dharmakīrti, father and son. The first is: Asaṅga believes that on the ālaya-vijñāna, there are two kinds of habitual imprints: common habitual imprints and uncommon habitual imprints. The first matures and gives rise to the appearance of the five objects such as form, and the second matures and gives rise to the appearance of the sense organs such as the eyes. The first is the objective condition, and the latter is the dominant condition. Therefore, the objective condition and the dominant condition are established in the appearance of the ālaya, and there are no objective condition and dominant condition that are external objects. Vasubandhu said: 'The existence of the sense bases such as form, is spoken by the power of intention, for those who are to be tamed, like beings born miraculously.' Having determined that the aggregates, elements, and sense bases that have become external objects are provisional meanings, 'From which seed of one's own, whatever appearance of consciousness arises, that and its sense base, the Thus-Gone One spoke of as two kinds.' It means that from the complete causes and conditions that awaken the habitual imprints of the appearance of objects, the consciousness that appears as objects arises, and this is the objective condition; from the complete causes and conditions that awaken the habitual imprints that appear to the sense organs, the consciousness that appears to the sense organs arises, and this is the dominant condition, so there are no objective condition and dominant condition that are substances other than consciousness. Both brothers believe that the immediately preceding condition is the immediate cessation of the six. The meaning of immediate cessation is that although the objective condition and the dominant condition exist at the time of the sense consciousness, if it is the immediately preceding condition, then the sense consciousness must cease at the time of its own arising, which is the meaning of the immediately preceding condition, and it is not that the cessation itself is regarded as the immediately preceding condition. Then, when the six entering consciousnesses arise continuously, it is reasonable for the immediate cessation of the six to be the immediately preceding condition, but how can the immediately preceding condition be established in the case of the two states of mindless absorption, sleep, fainting, and so on? At that time, the ālaya-vijñāna acts as the immediately preceding condition for the six entering consciousnesses, and later, in the process of continuous arising, the former acts as the immediately preceding condition for the latter. The second is the school of Dignāga and Dharmakīrti, father and son, which has three conditions. The first is the objective condition, which is divided into refuting other schools and establishing one's own school. The first is: In the 'Examination of Objects', it says:

The senses are the cause of distinct consciousness. Although they are subtle particles, they are not visible, so their object is not a subtle particle, like the senses themselves. However it appears, it is not as it seems. It does not exist as a substance, like a double moon. Therefore, neither of the two external objects should be considered as objects of the mind. Thus it is said. The meaning of this is that some Shravakas believe that external objects are the objective condition of sense consciousness. In this regard, there are two possibilities: subtle particles and the gross, which is the aggregation of many particles. First, it is not reasonable for subtle particles to be the objective condition, because their appearance is not visible. For example, in your own system, it is like the material senses. Second, it is not reasonable for the gross to be the objective condition, because it is not a substance. For example, like the double moon that appears in delusional sense consciousness. Therefore, neither of the two kinds of external objects is the nature of the objective condition, because the former does not fulfill the meaning of the object, and the latter does not fulfill the meaning of the condition. Secondly, in our own system, there are two kinds of objective conditions: the appearing objective condition and the potential objective condition. First, regarding the appearing objective condition, the "Examination of Objects" states: "The nature of inner consciousness is whatever appears as external objects. It is the object, because it is the nature of consciousness, and it is also the condition." Thus it is said. The meaning of this is that, in reality, consciousness is its own nature. In terms of appearance, this, which appears as a distant external object in sense consciousness at the same time, is established as the objective condition. The reason why it is called the object is that the definite cognition brought about by the sense consciousness calls it an object. The reason why it is called the condition is that the sense consciousness follows it without error, because it does not err even in the slightest part, so it is the condition. Thus it is said. Secondly: "Or, in order to establish potential, it is gradual." Thus it is said. The meaning of this is that not only is the objective condition established in the nature of one consciousness, but there are also objective conditions that arise gradually, one after the other. Because the similarity of the previously appearing sense consciousness is the immediately preceding habit of the previously appearing on the condition, the potential to generate the previously appearing sense consciousness as having a blue appearance is established as its objective condition. So, who established this potential? It was established by the previous sense consciousness that appeared earlier. Some believe that the appearing
