Thus. In the self-commentary of the Root Wisdom Treatise, it says, "For this, like the non-Buddhists, there is no result that turns into something other than the valid cognition." Also, here it says, "Relying on those establishments, all parts are established as what is to be proven and what proves." Also, in the Treasury of Reasoning, it says, "Therefore, for the establishment, the two, cause and effect, are considered as valid cognition and result." Thus. Here, valid cognition, what proves, the agent, characteristic, and what establishes are synonymous terms with the same meaning. Result, what is to be proven, action, what is signified, and what is to be established are synonymous terms with the same meaning. Action mainly refers to what is to be measured, and sometimes it also refers to action, as in "the prover of all actions," where action refers to activity. Therefore, here, what is to be measured has two aspects: object and consciousness. Result has two aspects: object-cognition and self-cognition. Valid cognition is definitely divided into two aspects: apprehended aspect and apprehending aspect. When the apprehending aspect is taken as valid cognition, the result is definitely self-cognition. However, when the apprehended aspect is taken as valid cognition, the result is not necessarily object-cognition. When the apprehended aspect is taken as valid cognition to establish the realization of the object, the result is the arising of object-cognition. When establishing the aspect that appears directly to oneself, the result is the arising of self-cognition. Why are the valid cognition and result of yogic direct perception not explained? These valid cognition and results are considered from the perspective of the valid cognition of conventional terms, like self-knowing and knowing others. Third, if the two, valid cognition and result, are not different entities, then will they not become what is to be proven and what proves? There is no fault. In general, what is to be proven and what proves have three types: what is to be proven and what proves by sign, what is to be produced and what produces, and what is to be established and what establishes. If, as you wish, you consider it as what is to be produced and what produces, then being non-other would become a fault. But here, it is considered as what is to be established and what establishes, so it will not become a fault, but rather a virtue. The reason is that, in general, merely being any one of the three provers is not the prover of all that is to be proven, but rather whichever prover can establish the result of what is to be proven is considered the prover, so here also, what proves.
