If, on these two bases, how is it determined that there are the two, infallibility and knowledge? It is determined by the ascertainment led by valid cognition. Then, is that ascertainment led by its own power or by the power of another? If it is said that the aspect of having knowledge is able to lead by its own power, that is to say: From oneself, realize one's own nature. (Tibetan: རང་ལས་རང་གི་ངོ་བོ་རྟོགས།) This means that from oneself, that is, from one's own experience, one's own awareness, manifest cognition. One's own nature refers to the meaning of knowledge, that is, the aspect of clarity. Realization refers to realization in the manner of being able to lead to ascertainment. In short, if it is a commonly designated valid cognition, then it follows that the aspect of knowledge among its two characteristics is self-cognizing valid cognition. That is to say, it is affirmative for the meaning of knowledge, but it is not definite for the name, which will be explained later. For things that have infallibility, there is both leading by one's own power and leading by the power of another, that is to say: From the name, it is valid cognition. (Tibetan: ཐ་སྙད་ལས་ནི་ཚད་མ་ཉིད།) Name refers to ascertainment, that is, the name of consciousness, ascertainment. From that name, the previous valid cognition is determined to be the meaning of valid cognition, that is, infallibility, but it is not the name of valid cognition. That ascertainment, being led by its own power, is called self-cognition, and being led by another valid cognition that arises after oneself is called other-cognition. Therefore, with respect to the characteristic of infallibility, both self-cognition and other-cognition are taught by this very treatise. Nowadays, the view that the former verse only shows self-cognition and the latter only shows other-cognition is like blindly following the horn of a rabbit without distinguishing the basis on which self-cognition and other-cognition are established. Because "one's own nature" and "valid cognition" separately explain the basis for establishing self-cognition and other-cognition. In short, the former verse shows that the meaning of the characteristic knowledge is only self-cognition, and the latter shows that the characteristic infallibility has both self-cognition and other-cognition. Whether this is the view of glorious Dharmakirti or not, even if children cannot distinguish it, please call upon the dakinis and dharma protectors to be witnesses. Secondly, it is not correct to establish as self-cognition that which is determined by the very substance of consciousness, and as other-cognition that which is determined by the substance of another consciousness. If that were the case, then all manifest cognitions would entail the fault of being other-cognition.

Because it exists. Therefore, the ascertainment produced by the very substance of mind through its own power, and the ascertainment produced by the power of other valid cognitions, are both minds of ascertainment. Third, taking the example of the sense-direct perception of blue, there are four: object blue, basis sense-direct perception of blue, designatum प्रमाण(藏文,梵文天城体,梵文罗马拟音,汉语字面意思:ཚད་མ། ,pramāṇa,pramana, valid cognition), and characteristic non-deceptive. It has already been explained that there is no distinction from the perspective of the basis and the designatum, and distinguishing from the perspective of the object and the characteristic is the same thing. Because when explaining the valid cognition that ascertains the characteristic on the basis, it is necessary to distinguish from the perspective of non-deception with respect to the object of entry, and in order to ascertain non-deception with respect to the object of entry, it is also necessary to ascertain the object of entry itself. Fourth, the characteristic of self-ascertaining valid cognition: a valid cognition that, with respect to its own object to be measured, generates ascertainment through its own power, so that through self-experiencing self-awareness direct perception, it is not deceptive to its own object to be measured, is what generates ascertainment through its own power. The characteristic of other-ascertaining valid cognition: a valid cognition that, with respect to its own object to be measured, cannot generate ascertainment through its own power, so that it cannot, through self-experiencing self-awareness direct perception, be non-deceptive to its own object to be measured, but must generate ascertainment through the power of other signs. For example, the direct perception of absence, with respect to the fact that there is no pot in a certain place, generates ascertainment through its own power, so that the self-experiencing self-awareness direct perception of that, with respect to the direct perception not seeing the pot, is able to generate ascertainment through its own power. On the basis, all inferences are only self-ascertaining valid cognitions, because if the object to be proven is not ascertained from a sign that possesses the three modes, it will not become an inference, and if it is ascertained, it is able to generate ascertainment of the object to be proven through its own power. Considering this, all three commentaries by Lha Shak Chok say that inference is only self-ascertaining. Of the four types of direct perception, some say that yogic direct perception is a self-ascertaining valid cognition, because it is said in the Perfection of Wisdom Sutra: "With great wisdom, one sees and ascertains all aspects." Therefore, this is not reasonable, because the "great wisdom" here refers to the fact that direct perception, when seeing, has no confusion, and therefore can be established as being able to generate ascertainment through its own power, and not just yogic direct perception alone, because that is not the meaning of the occasion, and the continuum of Buddhas and noble beings
