Does the decisive cognition that ascertains the object of measurement determine whether the previous valid cognition is not deceptive with respect to other objects of measurement, or does it not determine? If according to the first case, if it is a valid cognition, then it must be a self-ascertaining valid cognition. If it is a valid cognition, then whatever is capable of drawing certainty about its object of measurement by its own power, then it must also draw certainty about its own non-deception by its own power. Both reasons are accepted. If according to the second case, the decisive cognition that ascertains the object of measurement, which is drawn by the self-ascertaining valid cognition, then it is not certain that the self-ascertaining valid cognition is not deceptive with respect to the object of measurement. This is accepted, because such a decisive cognition has no other power than the power to determine that the self-ascertaining valid cognition is not deceptive with respect to the object of measurement. The second case is that the direct perception that apprehends the red glow in the distance when one is actually seeing fire and doubting whether it is fire or not, is not a valid cognition with respect to the aspect of the red glow being the color of fire. This is because it is not capable of drawing certainty about it by its own power. The pervasion is accepted. If you assert that, then the subsequent valid cognition that ascertains it does not ascertain that you are a valid cognition with respect to it. The third case is that inference should also be divided into two types: self-ascertaining and other-ascertaining. This is because a valid cognition that is capable of drawing certainty about its own object by its own power should be divided into two types. The fifth system is the same in meaning as the way of distinguishing from the aspect of definition, so it will occur in the case of one's own system. The third, identifying the valid side, has seven aspects: which text establishes self-ascertaining and other-ascertaining in what way; which subject establishes self-ascertaining and other-ascertaining in what way; on which object are these two established; identifying the definition and the defined; examining whether valid cognition is pervaded by these two; combining with the scriptures that express knowledge; refuting objections. The first is that in showing the general definition of valid cognition, the actual definition is: valid cognition is unerring knowledge. The refutation of the three faults of non-pervasion, over-pervasion, and impossibility is explained by "also arising from sound" and so on. For the defined, the valid cognition that ascertains the definition is: understanding one's own nature from oneself. It is explained by "understanding one's own nature from oneself" and so on. In this regard, in the sutras, it has already been established that the defined is definitely enumerated as two: direct perception and inference, and here also it will be explained in the chapter on direct perception, so the definition
