It is because it is non-deceptive, because it is capable of performing a function. It cannot be admitted, because it is a non-conceptual misperception. It is pervasive, because it is deceptive. That matter is also explained as two types: apparent perception and pseudo-perception. Because it is said so. In our own system, there are two ways: to eliminate wrong conceptions and to eliminate dissimilar types. The first is to eliminate the wrong conception of the Vaibhashikas who consider the sense faculties as substantial entities to be valid cognizers. Because it is said that mind is a valid cognizer. The second is to eliminate the non-validity of the person as a valid cognizer and the scripture as a valid cognizer, because these two also possess the three qualities of non-deception. At that time, who is the agent who does not deceive? It is the person who has exhausted his faults and the words spoken by him. What was said earlier was in terms of knowledge being a valid cognizer. In short, the objects to which the term "valid cognizer" applies are three: knowledge as a valid cognizer, a person as a valid cognizer, and scripture as a valid cognizer. All three are established as valid cognizers because they possess the three qualities of non-deception. First, knowledge as a valid cognizer is identified, and then the person as a valid cognizer is established in terms of the completeness of its meaning. Because it is said: The Bhagavan who possesses that is indeed a valid cognizer. After the person is established as a valid cognizer, the scripture is established as a valid cognizer. Because it is said: Trustworthy words are non-deceptive, and are inference from the general. If non-deception, non-obscuration, and clarity of meaning are in accordance with the self-characterized object, then there is the fault of non-pervasion for the valid cognizer that measures non-existent entities. If you think so, there is no fault, because it measures objects without self-characteristics, and therefore cannot perform a function, so it is non-deceptive. The sense consciousness that apprehends a white conch as yellow, and the sense consciousness that perceives a tree as moving, the subject, should be a valid cognizer, because it is a non-deceptive consciousness. If you say so, it is not established, because it apprehends the conch as yellow and the tree as moving, which are not established as such. Secondly, there are three ways in which it eliminates superimposition: the nature of the superimposition to be eliminated, the nature of the eliminating certainty, and how it determines it. First, the definition is: the clinging mind that conceives of the meaning of reality as another extreme. The divisions are: conceptual wrong consciousness and doubt, but non-conceptual wrong consciousness is not, because superimposition and certainty

If you want to know what two consciousnesses cannot arise simultaneously in the continuum of one person (Tibetan: གང་ཟག་), it is the consciousness with the appearance of two moons as its object and the ascertainment that determines the absence of two moons. This is because they arise simultaneously in the continuum of one person. Secondly, the definition of ascertainment is: a conceptual thought that apprehends its own object as being in accordance with reality and as being singular. It is impossible to apprehend something else while the function of that apprehension has not ceased. From the perspective of not distinguishing between the real and the imputed, there are two types: correct ascertainment and incorrect ascertainment. The first is like the ascertainment that sound is impermanent. The second is like the wrong conceptual thought that apprehends sound as permanent. The latter is the superimposition to be eliminated by ascertainment, so it is an imputed ascertainment. From the perspective of its essence, there are two types: ascertainment that is a valid cognition (Tibetan: ཚད་མ་) and ascertainment that is not a valid cognition. The first is all inference. The second is like the ascertainment that arises from being led by perception and inference. Perceptions are not the nature of a decisive eliminator, because the task is completed by merely the appearance of its own object, so it is impossible to ascertain its own object. Thirdly, a valid cognition of conventional designation engages in accepting or rejecting the presence or absence of characteristics, because it is not the result of ascertaining presence or absence. Therefore, it does not become a non-valid cognition. So it is said. Then, does it lead to ascertainment by its own power? Some valid cognitions lead to ascertainment by their own power, and some lead to it by the power of other valid cognitions that arise after it. The meaning of ascertainment cutting off superimposition is that ascertainment does not have the power to cut off the seed of superimposition. The manifestation of superimposition will not arise even if the mind is distracted to other objects, so after ascertainment arises, superimposition cannot arise before its function has ceased, and this is called ascertainment cutting off superimposition. Third, there are four points to establish the meaning of what is signified by the definition: the classification of what is signified, the refutation of wrong conceptual thoughts about the subject (Tibetan: མཚན་གཞི་), the explanation of the valid cognition that determines the definition of the subject, and the way in which it establishes and refutes. The first point has six aspects: the basis of classification, the essence of what is classified, the reason for classification, the meaning of how it is classified, the definite number of classifications,
