Because, for what is to be proven, the reasons that do not deceive are the correct reasons, and for what is to be proven, the reasons that deceive are the reasons that appear to be similar. So, if the intention of the Sutra is like that, in some parts of the treatises of Dignāga and Dharmakīrti, it is directly said that "the manifestation of the unapprehended object" is the nature of valid cognition, doesn't this contradict? It doesn't contradict, because these two are opposite in meaning. The so-called "manifestation of the unapprehended object" is indicated by "the manifestation of the unapprehended object also." By doing so, because this is the time to explain the praise verses of the Sutra on Valid Cognition, it is also appropriate to first show the opposite meaning of valid cognition, which is the intention of the Sutra. Because, the Bhagavan is valid cognition, and is mainly established from the perspective of non-deception. Both the former and the latter are consistent in meaning in realizing either the self-characterized or the non-self-characterized. When explaining the meaning of non-deception, it is also said: "That which abides in being able to accomplish the purpose is, non-deceptive," and when explaining the meaning of the manifestation of the unapprehended object, it is also said: "Not knowing its own character, what kind of knowledge is it," because it is said so. Both conventional valid cognition and ultimate valid cognition include both non-deception and the manifestation of the unapprehended object, because these two are opposite in meaning. Second, from the three aspects of which agent does not deceive, which action does not deceive, and in what way does not deceive, first, knowing how things exist, knowing that what exists exists, and knowing that what does not exist does not exist, this itself is non-deceptive. Second, if a thing has its own character, if one engages with it, then one does not deceive in being able to accomplish the purpose; if a thing does not have its own character, if one turns away from it, then one does not deceive in not being able to accomplish the purpose. Third, if one engages with the self-characterized, then one does not deceive in obtaining it; because there is no self-characterized, if one turns away from it, then one does not deceive in not having it. Therefore, all things possess the non-deception of the object shown here, because when oneself is set as the object to be measured, one abides in being able to accomplish the purpose. For ascertainment and doubt, it is possible to possess the non-deception of action, because it engages with the self-characterized, so it is possible to obtain the self-characterized. However, the non-deception of the agent is not possessed, if it were, then the way of grasping must be non-erroneous, but ascertainment grasps the object taken by the previous and later valid cognition as one, therefore it is an erroneous way of grasping. Therefore, the non-deception of the object

Merely by the non-deception of action, the "non-deception" here cannot be determined. If the "non-deception" here is to be established, it must possess three qualities. Third, merely the knowledge of non-deception completely fulfills the definition of valid cognition (pramāṇa), because the "non-deception" here must possess three qualities, and the "non-deception" of the agent must possess the meaning of fresh cognition. Therefore, there is no need to mention the word "fresh," because it lacks distinction and has the fault of repetition. The first point is established because it has already been shown that the distinguished knowledge is not the "non-deception" indicated here. The second point is established because it has already been shown that the "non-deception" of the agent possesses the meaning of fresh cognition. Therefore, in the Pramāṇavārttika, it says, "These enter after completely distinguishing the object, because the action of the object is without deception." And here also, "Valid cognition is knowledge that is without deception." And, "Because thought is without deception, even error is valid cognition." And, "Because it is without deception, it is valid cognition." And, "Whatever is without deception is considered meditative direct perception as valid cognition." And, "Because of deception, in that sense, valid cognition itself is negated." And so forth, the treatises of the Pramāṇavārttika seem to distinguish what is valid cognition and what is not through all aspects, but the addition of the word "fresh" is not seen. Moreover, in the root text and commentary of the Tshad ma rigs gter, it says, "Only this is said, and some ancient scholars who followed it also did the same. Therefore, considering distinguished knowledge as non-deceptive knowledge and adding the word 'fresh' is a misunderstanding of the intention of the great treatises and should be discarded far away." Third, refuting the argument: If the non-deception of the agent is knowledge, then there is no need to mention "knowledge," because it would become meaningless. To this, the Adorner (author) replies, "It is said in order to eliminate the wrong notion of some outsiders who consider the corporeal sense organs as valid cognition." Shakya-blo says, "It is said in order to avoid the fault of the non-deception of the object becoming valid cognition." But the latter is somewhat unreasonable, because the non-deception of the object is not the "non-deception" indicated here. Otherwise, the sensory consciousness of one with cataracts should be the "non-deception" indicated here, because the object
