Some say that the knowledge that does not deceive the object to be measured is the definition of valid cognition (pramāṇa), but it is unreasonable to say that the newly non-deceptive intellect is the definition of valid cognition. The second moment of omniscient wisdom is the subject, because it is the object of that definition. It cannot be thought so, because the first moment of omniscient wisdom has already understood the object to be measured. To this, others say that it is unreasonable, because the uncommonness of that valid cognition, the newness, is not complete. To say that is contradictory to one's own system, because "valid cognition is knowledge with non-deception" does not show the complete definition of valid cognition, because it does not show the main part of the uncommonness of valid cognition, the newness. If you admit it, then it contradicts what he has promised, the complete definition of valid cognition in Dharmakirti's own system. The Destroyer Race says that it is not repeated knowledge, such as boundless change, memory, etc. Relying on this, it is said that the manifestation of the unknown is the definition of valid cognition. Relying on "trustworthy words are non-deceptive, inference itself is from the general," it is said that non-deceptive knowledge is the definition of valid cognition, which is unreasonable. Because the previous treatise only implies the new knowledge of what was previously unknown, but in reality it does not produce the new knowledge of what was previously unknown, therefore, in order to determine the meaning of the treatise that the new knowledge of what was actually previously unknown is the definition of valid cognition here, because "What is the knowledge that does not recognize its own definition?" For otherwise, it would be reasonable to show the manifestation of the unknown first, and then show the non-deceptive knowledge later, because the two treatises of the valid cognition sutra appear in that order. Second, one's own system is: non-deception and the manifestation of the unknown, in recognizing their own characteristics, the meanings are consistent. Conventional truth and ultimate truth, both apply to these two. Non-deception has the nature of the three: action, agent, and object. In explaining the meaning of what is said, explain the intention of the two previous and subsequent treatises, explain the meaning of non-deception, so it is established that there is no need to add other words, there are three aspects. First, through "valid cognition is knowledge with non-deception," the meaning difference of valid cognition, which has become the intention of all valid cognition sutra treatises, is shown, and in the valid cognition sutra, in the context of explaining the determination of the number of valid cognitions, also not

Deceptive cognitions belong to the category of valid cognition, and it is said that deceptive cognitions are not understood to belong to that category. Also, in the case of direct perception, taking non-conceptual cognition as the basis, non-deceptive cognitions are correct direct perception, and deceptive cognitions are said to be apparent direct perception. Also, in the case of the two types of inference, non-deceptive reasons for the object to be proven are correct reasons, and deceptive reasons for the object to be proven are said to be apparent reasons. If the intention of the sutra is like that, then isn't it contradictory that in some parts of Dignāga's treatises, "making the unknown clear" is explicitly stated as the definition of valid cognition? It is not contradictory, because the two are opposite in meaning. The so-called "making the unknown clear" is shown by "also clarifying the unknown meaning." In this way, since this is the occasion for explaining the sutra's praise of valid cognition, it is also appropriate to first show the opposite meaning of valid cognition, which is the intention of the sutra. Because the Bhagavan is valid cognition, it must also be established primarily through the aspect of non-deception. Both the former and the latter are consistent in meaning in that they are cognized as either having or not having their own characteristics. Also, when explaining the meaning of non-deception, it is said, "That which exists in being able to perform a function is non-deceptive." Also, when explaining the meaning of "making the unknown clear," it is said, "What kind of cognition is it that does not know its own characteristics?" Both non-deception and making the unknown clear apply to both conventional valid cognition and ultimate valid cognition, because the two are opposite in meaning. Secondly, it is divided into three aspects: by whom is there no deception, in what is there no deception, and in what way is there no deception. First, the cognition that knows that things exist as they exist, and knows that things do not exist as they do not exist, that itself is non-deceptive. Second, because things have their own characteristics, if one engages with them, there will be no deception in being able to perform a function. Because things do not have their own characteristics, if one turns away from them, there will be no deception in not being able to perform a function. Third, if one engages with its own characteristics, there will be no deception in obtaining it. Because there are no own characteristics, if one turns away from it, there will be no deception in not having it. Therefore, all phenomena possess this non-deception of the object as taught here, because when oneself is established as the object to be measured, it exists in being able to perform a function.
