And, what is taken is also related to faults, there are two kinds. The first is: the proponent does not intend it as the probandum with intention, this is eliminated by intention. The second has two kinds: the opponent has already established it, therefore it is not necessary to establish; and because the valid means has already eliminated it, therefore it cannot be established. The first is eliminated by its own nature, the second is for the sake of eliminating by what has not been eliminated. This is the second fundamental reason, for that wrong conception, because of the reason related to what is to be explained, for example, whether the unestablished example will become the probandum, and because the proponent has already promised that the treatise is a valid means, therefore whether all the meanings of the scriptures will become the probandum, for these two wrong conceptions, the first is eliminated by "only", the second is for the sake of eliminating by oneself. Fourth, the nature of the probandum for the benefit of others, because it is not established for the opponent, therefore the nature is shown first. Then, the unestablished example is also not established for the opponent, therefore will it become the probandum of the occasion? In order to cut this off, therefore "only" is said after that. Then, if one wants to establish that the eyes etc. are for one's own benefit, when saying "eyes etc., the dharma, are for the benefit of others", because holding the eyes etc. for the benefit of others only as the probandum, therefore will it become the probandum of the occasion? In order to cut this off, therefore "intention" is said after that. Then, because the proponent intends to take all the promised meanings of the scriptures as the probandum with intention, therefore will it become the probandum of the occasion? In order to cut this off, therefore "oneself" is said after that. Therefore, in the Sutra, saying "oneself" first is because of the arrangement, and in the Commentary on Valid Cognition, saying "intention" first is because of taking this order as the standard. Then, when promising that sound is not what is heard, the pot is permanent, giving etc. will not produce happiness, and the moon with the rabbit cannot be expressed by sound, because promising as the probandum of the occasion, therefore will it become the real probandum for the benefit of others? In order to cut this off, therefore "not eliminated" is said after that. Fifth, the nature is determined only by the opponent, because what the proponent has already established before is not a fault of the subject. "Only" is determined by both the proponent and the opponent, because the proponent has already said what is to be explained, therefore the opponent

Because it would give rise to the misconception that what is not excluded, is it the thing to be established as an example of what can be established, and in the case of a non-example, is it the thing to be established? What is not excluded is considered in both ways. If the previous debater's valid cognition excludes it, then there is no intention to establish it. If the later debater's valid cognition excludes it, then there is no intention to understand it. Sixth, some say that the difference between oneself and intention is to exclude what is too pervasive and to exclude what is not pervasive. Some think that intention is to exclude the place of misconception and its essence. Some say that it is to exclude what is not promised and what is not desired in the heart. Others deny all of these, thinking that in their own school, even if intention is actually spoken of verbally, what is not desired in the heart is not the thing to be established. If it is said to be the thing to be established, then it must be desired in the heart. When this is shown, if the debater does not promise the scriptural authority, then it can be said that way. If the scriptural authority is promised, then whether it is desired or not desired in the heart, all the meanings of the scripture must be taken as the thing to be established. In order to eliminate this misconception, oneself is spoken of. Regarding this, it is unreasonable to deny intention in the difference between excluding what is too pervasive and what is not pervasive, because "Oneself is the word, conjunction, and expression of the essence. All that is not excluded and included excludes the contradictory. The word 'intention' excludes what is not pervasive." Because it has been said that way. It is also unreasonable to deny intention in the difference between excluding what is not promised and what is not desired in the heart, because there is no difference appearing between one's own school and that, and intention is that eyes and others do things for others, and what is not desired in the heart is not the thing to be established at this time, and oneself has not promised that all the meanings of the scripture are the thing to be established at this time, therefore it is shown that it is not the thing to be established at this time. Therefore, one's own school must also promise those two, because it appears to be the meaning of the scripture. Seventh, in the sutra it says: If the five characteristics are shown in one direction, then in the "Commentary on Valid Cognition", "Essence, word, conjunction, self-nature, intention." In such a case, what is the reason why what is not excluded is not actually explained? Some say that the reason is that the objects of exclusion of the four, such as essence, do not include the characteristics of the thing to be established, only because the valid cognition does not harm it, and the valid cognition of what is not excluded harms that object of exclusion. It is unreasonable to say that, so what is the reason why it is not actually explained there alone?
