Therefore, all previous reasonings are detrimental to this. Secondly, refuting the view that only universals are to be expressed is divided into two parts: refuting that only the genus universal is to be expressed, and refuting that only the sound-meaning universal is to be expressed. The first part is: The Vaiśeṣika says, if the own-character of the object and the own-character of the knowledge are the direct objects of expression of the expressing sound, then as the reasoning stated earlier is detrimental, the genus universal of those that are clearly manifest and different substances is the direct object of expression of the expressing sound, because it is the cause of the sound and mind operating uniformly on those that are clearly manifest. To this, the universal of cows that are clearly manifest and different substances, as the subject, for you, applying the designation "cow" is meaningless, because applying the designation in that way will not lead to the understanding of cow at the time of expression. For example, just as applying a designation to a pot does not lead to the understanding of a cow. If it is said that there is no fault, because the designation is applied to the own-character related to the universal substance that is different, then why not apply the designation to the own-character that abandons the universal substance that is different? When asked this question, they answer that it is because it is infinite. Then, the designation should also not be applied to the own-character related to the universal substance that is different, because it is equally infinite. The second part, some Tibetans say, if the own-character of the object, the own-character of the knowledge, and the universal existing in the object are the objects to be expressed, then there would be the fault of being established on the Tirthikas. However, the universal of the object appearing in the concept itself is the direct object to be expressed, so there is no fault. They say this. The Vaibhāṣika says, the combination of name and sign, existent or nonexistent, of the pot that appears on the object pot, the sound called pot, and the knowledge holding the pot, having the form of a name and the form of a sign appearing as a bulging belly, that itself is the direct object to be expressed by the sound called pot. They say this. This is unreasonable, because the combination of name and sign, existent or nonexistent, of the pot, as the subject, for you, applying the designation "pot" is meaningless, because applying the designation in that way will not lead to the understanding of pot. For example, just as applying a designation to a pot does not lead to the understanding of a cow. If it is said that there is no fault, because that and the pot both have similar images of a bulging belly, so the two are confused and operate on the pot. Then, relying on the designation "pot"

From there, the person who makes one understand the pot has the property that you do not mistake the name of the pot for the pot at all times and places, but at some times and places, you also mistake the pot for the name of the pot, because you confuse the two for the reason that they are similar. As it is said: If confusion arises from the similarity of things, then there will be no confusion at all times and places. Therefore, here, the two are not confused as one in all places, because in some places it is possible to know the two separately. As before, apply the argument that the two are not confused as one at all times to the view of the Rigter Self-Commentary. Second, establishing one's own system, there are three aspects: definition, classification, and determining its meaning. First, the definitions of the object to be expressed and the means of expression are, respectively: that which is to be understood from a sign, and the sign that makes the meaning understood. Second, there are two types: the common classification of the object to be expressed and the means of expression, and the uncommon classification of the means of expression. First, taking the example of expressing a pot with the word "pot," among the object to be expressed and the means of expression at the time of expression, and the object to be expressed and the means of expression at the time of use, the object to be expressed and the means of expression at the time of expression are divided into the actual object to be expressed and the means of expression, and the apprehended object to be expressed and the means of expression. The actual object to be expressed is like the general meaning of a pot. The actual means of expression is like the general sound of saying "pot." The apprehended object to be expressed is like the self-character of a pot, and the apprehended means of expression is like the self-character of the sound of saying "pot." Nowadays, if the actual object to be expressed by sound is not a self-character, then only those who admire the Rigter will have it in their minds, but if it is the actual means of expression, then the fact that it is not a self-character still does not seem to fit into their minds. There is no difference in the view of the great self-master, because in the concept that arises after the auditory consciousness of hearing a sound, the means of expression that appears as "this sound seems to be expressing this thing" is regarded as the actual means of expression, and the thing that appears as the object to be expressed is regarded as the actual object to be expressed. The object to be expressed at the time of use is not divided into actual and apprehended, because at the time of use
