Ground: Reason for establishing the thesis, refuting arguments. First: The general characteristic, the subject, is not an entity, because it does not appear to the mind that apprehends itself independently of its own clarity. Second: If it is said that even the sense faculty with form would become a non-entity that does not depend on external objects, because it does not appear to the mind independently of them, then: Form (གཟུགཾས།, rūpa, रूप, form), the sense faculty with form, the subject, it is possible that it appears to the mind independently of external objects, because it appears to the yogic direct perception in that way. The general characteristic, the subject, does not appear to the mind independently of clarity, because it is not observed that it can appear independently of clarity. If it is thought that it appears to the mind when clarity is seen, then when the clarity of a cow is seen, that mind, the subject, the general object cow does not appear, because the sound that is called cow, and the object other than the clarity of the cow, do not appear. Eighth: That (དེཾ།, tat, तत्, that), the general characteristic, the subject, is not an entity, because it is not capable of performing the function of generating the knowledge of its own particular. It is pervasive, because that which is not capable of performing the function is the characteristic of non-entity. Second, establishing the entity as its own particular nature: As (ཇིཾ།, jiṃ, जिं, as), the entity, the subject, if it is you, then it is pervaded by its own particular, because if it is you, then it is pervaded by eight things, from not being the actual object expressed by the expressing sound to being capable of performing the function. Third, showing the distinctions of the general characteristic nature, there are two: entity and refuting arguments. First: Entity (དངོསཾ།, vastu, वस्तु, entity), the general characteristic, the subject, is of three kinds, because there are generalities that depend on entities, depend on non-entities, and depend on both. Second, there are two: argument and answer. First: If (གལཾ།, gal, गल्, if), the conceptual thought that apprehends the generality that depends on entities, the subject, it follows that it knows by appearing its own particular, because it is a knowledge related to its own particular. Second: Not (མིནཾ།, min, मिन्, not), that, the subject, it follows that it is not, because that it is has already been refuted, and also it has not been established that the conceptual thought that apprehends the past and future is related to its own particular. If (གལཾ།, gal, गल्, if), then the generality that depends on entities would become not a property of entities, the generality of entities, the subject, there is no fault of not being a property of entities, because the conceptual thought drawn by the direct perception that apprehends entities, that you are apprehended as a property of entities.

Ro! Secondly, the object of entry, the measurable, is summarized as one self-characteristic. Does this mean that the measurable is necessarily divided into self and general characteristics from the perspective of its essence? Rang! (Tibetan seed syllable) The valid cognition that establishes all expressions, the subject, the measurable that has become your object of entry is definitely one self-characteristic, because the definite knowledge that you derive from your own power only examines whether the self-characteristic exists or not. Thirdly, there are three ways to avoid the contradiction of saying that there are two aspects to this: establishing two aspects from the perspective of the way of realization; showing that the second way of conceptualization is an illusion; and refuting that it is not a valid cognition. Firstly, if it is said that Dignāga said that two characteristics are measurable, is this contradictory? De! Dignāga, the subject, does not assert that the measurable is divided into self and general characteristics from the perspective of its essence, because he asserts that the measurable is divided into self and general characteristics from the perspective of the way of realization. Secondly, Ji! (Tibetan seed syllable) Inference, the subject, is an illusion, because it is a conceptual mind that clings to its own appearance as an external object. Thirdly, there are two aspects: stating one's own position and stating a refutation. Firstly, if it is said, Ga! (Tibetan seed syllable) Inference, the subject, is not a cause for obtaining the self-characteristic, because the self-characteristic does not appear directly. Also, this, the subject, is not a valid cognition, because it is an illusion, do both of these entail one's own system? Secondly, Sam! (Tibetan seed syllable) Inference, the subject, although it is an illusion, it is a valid cognition, because although it is an illusion, it is a cognition that does not deceive the object of entry. Nam! (Tibetan seed syllable) If the self-characteristic does not appear directly, then it is not a cause for obtaining the self-characteristic, this is not pervasive, because one can obtain a jewel even from clinging to the light of a jewel as a jewel. Inference, the subject, you do not realize from the appearance of the self-characteristic, because it has already been refuted in the context of "that is the meaning of what is said." Nor! (Tibetan seed syllable) Inference and the conceptualizations that appear there, the subject, although they are the same in being illusions, there is a difference in whether they are valid cognitions or not, because although they are the same in being illusions, there is a difference in whether they deceive or do not deceive the object of entry. For example, the conceptual mind that clings to the light of a jewel as a jewel and the conceptual mind that clings to the light of a lamp as a jewel, although they are the same in being illusions, there is a difference in whether they accomplish or do not accomplish the purpose of obtaining the jewel indirectly. Secondly, there are three ways to establish pervasiveness: realizing with one's own essence is direct perception; others'
