Dharma, even indirectly, cannot become a valid argument to establish that sound is impermanent, because the sound impermanence itself, which is to be established, is stated, but its means of establishment is not stated. If something is done, it is pervaded by impermanence, etc., the valid argument that states the reason, Dharma, becomes the means of establishing that sound is impermanent through indirect means, because it does not have the ability to directly establish that sound is impermanent, but it is a valid argument that directly establishes the three aspects of sound impermanence. Does the teacher Dignāga consider the subject to be a direct and indirect means of establishment? The answer is yes. Dignāga, Dharma, is not a direct means of establishing the subject, because doubt arises from it. It is said that it is also considered not to be an indirect means of establishment, because as the object of the meaning of the reason itself, it does not have the ability to establish what is to be established, because what is to be established is stated by the subject. Because, showing what is to be inferred from that is considered to be the object of the meaning of the reason. So it is said. The third part has two, refuting the means of establishment of entering the sign word, and refuting the means of establishment of entering the ability. The first part has three, stating the assertion, explaining the refutation, and summarizing the established meaning. First, if the subject term also, Dharma, has the ability to establish what is to be established through indirect means, because relying on it to establish the word of reason, because it is entering, if you say so. Second, the opponent doubts whether the sound is permanent or impermanent, and wants to understand one side from that, and when arguing about the right and wrong of what is to be established from that, and the opponent's desire to infer, etc., Dharma, becomes the means of establishing that sound is impermanent through indirect means, because the word of reason that enters to establish that sound is impermanent relies on you. If doubt, etc., are not words, so it is not a means of establishment, if you say so. The dissimilar class, if the word admits that the sound is permanent, that word also, Dharma, becomes the means of establishing that sound is impermanent, because relying on it, the word that enters to establish the reason that sound is impermanent is the same. If you admit it, therefore, the means of establishing that sound is impermanent will become endless. Third, the word that states the reason itself for establishing that sound is impermanent with the reason of being made

Ga, the subject of the proposition. You have the ability to establish the thesis through (other things), because the internal parts, that is, the function of actually establishing the thesis, truly exists in the correct reason that possesses the three characteristics. The arising of mindfulness of these three characteristics is because they truly exist in you. The subject term does not have the ability to establish the thesis through (other things), because it cannot generate mindfulness of the probans from that. The second part has three points: stating the view, explaining the refutation, and eliminating the dispute. The first point is: if it is thought that the place where the power of the reason is shown, that is, the words of the subject term itself, has the function of establishing the thesis, because if there is no place to show the power of the reason, then the reason for establishing it will not work. The second point is: in order to establish the function of establishing the thesis, it is not necessary to actually show the place where the power of the reason lies, that is, the thesis itself. Because, like "Whatever is made is impermanent," etc., in the premise of having a pervasive relationship, even if the thesis itself is not actually shown, it can be known that sound is impermanent. And, like "Sound is made, whatever is made is impermanent," in the premise of having homogeneity, merely by stating it, the subsequent wisdom that knows that sound is destructible can actually arise. The third point is: if it is said that if the subject is not actually stated, then the parts of the argument will become defective. Subject of the argument, the subject. We say that if any of the three characteristics is not actually shown, then it is defective. However, the incompleteness of the subject term does not lead to defects, because even if the subject is not actually stated, there is no obstacle to establishing the thesis from you. The second point is: by showing that the subject term is not the probans, it is also established that the faults mentioned by Master Dignāga in the definition of the proposition of the logicians will not fall on oneself. Like this, if, like not admitting that the subject term is the probans, even if it is said that stating the thesis is the definition of the proposition, then for the speaker, the subject of the proposition, stating the unestablished example and reason, will become the fault of the proposition, this accusation is unreasonable. Because, stating similar examples and reasons will not lead to the fault of becoming a proposition. Because, saying that stating the thesis is the proposition does not use it as the probans.
