Chapter on Benefit for Others. Chapter on Benefit for Others. Secondly, there are three aspects to explaining inference for others: first, showing the connection by way of introduction; second, explaining the text of the chapter itself; and third, showing the conclusion with the title. First: Just as in the Ornament and the Order of Reasoning, here too, the intention of the author is not to explain inference for others immediately after inference for oneself, and since inference for oneself has already been explained first due to its necessity, now it is good to explain inference for others alone, as it remains. All these reasons have already been explained in the first chapter. Secondly, it is not good for the earlier scholars to explain the characteristics of the statement of proof, and to explain what is to be understood by implication and what is to be proven, and to explain the actual subject matter, the reason, as three aspects. What is to be understood by implication of the statement of proof is the basis of what is to be proven, such as sound being impermanent, and although it is understood by implication, it is not necessary to explain it, but it is explained in order to dispel confusion about the characteristics of what is to be proven, because what is explained here and what is to be understood by implication are not the same. Because the statement of proof itself has the meaning of understanding, but the characteristics are stated in order to be without confusion. As it is said. For example, the fact that validity knows its own nature is understood from itself, and the fact that it is not deceptive is understood from terminology, but in order to dispel confusion about the characteristics of validity, it is said that the treatise that shows the characteristics of validity is explained. It is also not appropriate to say that the actual subject matter is the reason, because here the reason is the nine reasons that have the property of being a party, and the actual subject matter of the statement of proof is only two reasons, and the other seven are only apparent reasons. So how should it be? There are three aspects to this: explaining the main statement of proof of what is said, explaining what is to be proven in order to dispel confusion, and explaining the reason in order to understand the way of speaking. The first has two aspects: explaining the need to mention "self-seen", and explaining the need to mention "meaning". The first has three aspects: explaining the distinction of what is seen by oneself, proving the meaning of the distinction by reasoning, and avoiding similarity to the statement of fallacy. First: In the Sutra on Valid Cognition: Inference for others is that which makes clear the meaning seen by oneself.

What is seen is what the previous debater himself saw. The term "meaning" refers to a correct reason that possesses the three modes of meaning, counter-example, and pervasion. The term "very clear" refers to a mode of expression that is free from the faults of excess, deficiency, and error. So, what is the need to mention what one has seen oneself? In short, there is a need to state the phrase "what I have seen." Some Samkhyas say: Pleasure (Tibetan: བློ་བདེ་) is a dharma, it is without mind, because it is subject to arising and ceasing. When this is stated in front of Buddhists, even if the subject-property of that reason is not seen by the previous debater himself, but is merely seen by other Buddhists from the scriptures, pleasure is a proof of being without mind, because in order to show the object to be proven to others (i.e., the debater), the sign is stated as a reason, and not stated for the purpose of debate. This is to avoid such wrong views. The second aspect is divided into two points: refuting the establishment of arising and ceasing from the scriptures; refuting the establishment of being without mind from arising and ceasing. The first aspect is divided into three points: scripture is not a valid cognition for the object of direct perception; because it is not a valid cognition, it cannot establish what is to be established; refuting that it is established as a valid cognition for the opponent himself. The first point is: scripture is a dharma, you cannot establish from it that pleasure is subject to arising and ceasing, because you do not consider it to be a valid cognition that establishes the object of direct perception and inference, because after direct perception and inference have fully examined your meaning, when it is purified by examination, it is necessary to fully accept other objects of measurement as proofs. Even when it is purified by examination, that scripture is a dharma, you cannot establish from it that pleasure is subject to arising and ceasing, because in that object that is established as a proof, direct perception and inference will not intervene. The second point is: when establishing that pleasure is without mind, the Buddhist scripture is not a valid cognition, because in order to harm the Buddhist scripture, for the opponent, pleasure that contradicts the Buddhist scripture is without mind, and it is possible to state a correct proof. If you admit it, the Buddhist scripture is a dharma, if it is established, then all reasons will not be established, because it is merely a scripture that is not a valid cognition, therefore, because of that reason. The third point is: if that scripture is a sign in meaning
