Now, because there is no understanding of the negation of self (ātman) through valid cognition (pramāṇa). The previous fault has pervasion, because from the way of seeing life, etc., on some substrates, it can be known that it exists in a living body and does not exist in a pot, etc. If, like that, I am also seen on some substrates, then it can be known that I exist in a living body and do not exist in a pot, etc., because it is not otherwise. The third has three: showing that the fault is harmless, refuting the proof that has a fault, and establishing the proof that has no fault. First: The living body is the subject of the proposition, the absence of life, etc., is the predicate, because there is no self, like a pot. If you say so, life, etc., is the subject of the proposition, with the reason that I am your cause, if there is no self in the living body, then it is not reasonable to assert the fault of your non-existence. Your cause, wisdom and effort, etc., if any one does not exist, just as life, etc., is not seen in a pot, if it is also admitted that those causes do not exist in a living body, then it is reasonable to assert the fault of your non-existence in a living body, because I am not your cause. Second: If those without self only slightly conform to the non-appearance of life, etc., and the living body, which is different from the pot, also infers the existence of self because it has life, etc., then why not infer that pots, etc., have self? It should follow that they have self. Because it conforms to the living body with self and measurability. If you say that it is not with self because you do not want the pot to be established as the extreme of having self, then the pot, etc., is the subject of the proposition, it should be reasonable to want it to be with self, because with the reason of slightly conforming to having self, it is established as having self by valid cognition. Pervasion, because being established by valid cognition in that way is the reason for all the reasons for wanting it that way, because without that which is established by valid cognition, who with knowledge can establish the distinction between things and non-things? Because it cannot be established. Third: Which cause does not exist? Because which disappears, life, etc., disappears, what is the cause of life, etc.? Life and opening and closing the eyes, etc., and breathing are the subject of the proposition, not born from self, because they are born from memory and, desire and, the body's ability and, wisdom and, effort, etc.

Furthermore, these life and so on are also subjects, not born from the self, but arising from objects, senses, and previous thoughts. Moreover, these objects, senses, and consciousness also depend on each other as conditions, arising from their own kind of immediate cause, the previous thought. Therefore, this entity of the nature of life and so on, is a subject, arising from just these: consciousness, body, effort, and so on. It is not born from the self, because it relies on following and contradicting its own causes—consciousness, body, effort, and so on—and does not follow or contradict the self. This is pervasive: if one considers something other than what follows and contradicts, that is, another self, as the cause, then the causes of life and so on would also require others and others, thus becoming infinite. Secondly, therefore, to establish that what is heard and life are the same, there are four points: showing that what is heard and life are the same through the reversal of contradiction; refuting the existence of dissimilar differences; refuting the reason why life and so on are not reversed; establishing the reason why life and so on are reversed. First: In establishing that sound is permanent, in establishing what is heard and the living body along with the self, this life and so on is a subject, it will become not a correct reason, because the reversal of contradiction is the same. The second has two: stating the difference, refuting each separately. First: If the reason is not established, even if life and so on have a non-reversed contradiction, this what is heard is because of the reversed contradiction. The second has two: the reason why what is heard is reversed is the same as life, if life has a pervasive contradiction, then following is established. First: How is the contradiction of what is heard reversed? It is not established, because it does not contradict only from the dissimilar side, but also contradicts from the similar side. Then, what is heard is a subject, in fact, it must be said that it is reversed from the aspect of not following the similar side that has the dharma to be established, because it is reversed because of the reason of contradicting from the similar side. If you admit, then other life and so on is a subject, it becomes a reversed contradiction, because there is no following on the similar side, which is the same for you. Second: In establishing the living body and the self, life and so on is a subject, it becomes existing in the similar side, the dissimilar side
