Happiness, etc., being impermanent, is taken as the subject of a specific situation. At that time, if this reason negates the main nature of permanence, then the happiness, etc., which are dependent on that nature, will also be negated. Therefore, the subject of the specific situation, happiness, etc., being impermanent, will also be negated, thus proving that the proposition in the specific situation is harmed. If it is said that, in this syllogism, "because the cause sequentially produces its own effect" is the subject, if you are certain that happiness, etc., are contrary to impermanence, then it will inevitably become a contradiction that negates the subject of the specific situation, because if you are certain that happiness, etc., are contrary to impermanence, then it will prove that the impermanent happiness, etc., which are taken as your own subject, do not exist. Therefore, even if this is the case, it is not necessarily so. To prevent impermanent happiness, etc., taking "the cause sequentially produces its own effect" as the reason, this is the subject, which is excessive and considered an uncertain characteristic, because the property of the subject has been established, and there is doubt about returning from the dissimilar class related to it. Why is that? Because there is no contradiction between the reason acting sequentially and happiness, etc., being impermanent, because happiness, etc., are both of these. Third, saying "one's own subject" is the subject, harming the basis of the dharma that the opponent himself desires to establish, that is, the subject that one wants to understand, is harming the proposition in the specific situation. Merely harming the subject that is inappropriate for the occasion, or the basis of other dharmas that are not desired, that is, the subject, does not harm the proposition in the specific situation, because it has been shown that the dharma that the opponent himself desires is the proposition of that subject. For example, when explaining the characteristics of the subject, using the word "self" to harm other dharmas that the opponent does not desire, such as the meaning of the scriptures, etc., does not harm the proposition in the specific situation, just as it has been shown that using the words "one's own subject," even if it harms other subjects that are inappropriate for the occasion, it does not harm the proposition in the specific situation, just as it is said. Fourth, the non-establishment of the basis, etc., is not a fault of the subject: When explaining the self-basis, if it is admitted that harming the subject, the dharma, and both, will harm the proposition in the specific situation. For example, when Buddhists say to Samkhyas, "sound is destructible," etc., it is a non-establishment of characteristics, and "I am all-pervasive," etc.

The unestablished special case, and "I am the cause of suitable aggregation," etc., like this, both cases are not established. Why doesn't the author of the scripture explain them as thesis faults? It should be explained, because they harm the establishment of the thesis. If it is said that because they harm the proof, then the faults of the proof will harm the establishment of the thesis by means of valid cognition. Even so, these subjects are not thesis faults, because they are not faults related only to the assertion. The pervasion is established, because only the faults related to the assertion are thesis faults. Therefore, the subject of the basis, and other unestablished dharmas, and both unestablished, etc., these subjects are not thesis faults of that argument, because they are successively the faults of the reason, example, and both of that argument. The pervasion is established, because whatever fault the latter member relies on the sign and example is a fault related to the sign and example themselves, because of what was said above. Second, there are two types of thesis faults that are established by that method, such as preventing distinctions: the former summarizes and shows the way of establishment, and the latter explains the illustrative examples. The first is: The teacher, by means of four examples such as "sound is not audible," shows that the negation of the nature of the dharma is a thesis fault. This shows that the negation that harms the difference of the dharma that has become a part of what is to be established, the difference of the subject, and the nature of the subject itself are all thesis faults, because everything that negates the subject by means of valid cognition is shown to be a thesis fault. Here, from the perspective of the syntactic structure, the difference of the subject is mentioned first, and the author has embellished it, so understand it in that order. However, in the scripture's own commentary and the deity's commentary, the three examples that first mention harming the difference of the dharma are successively "the whole is other than the parts," etc., and "the parts are other than the whole," etc., and "substance exists," etc., the thesis can be established. The ways to refute these are also mentioned in the scripture's own commentary: "The whole is not other than the parts, because it does not hold the difference of a low weight." "The parts are not other than the whole, because it would become non-manifest." "Substance exists
