Seeming theses. Those are not actual theses, because they are obstructed by direct perception and so on. With this in mind, in general, sound is not to be heard, etc., is spoken from the perspective of exclusion. Here also, it is said, "Obstructions are explained in four ways." And in the Tika, the exclusion of it by direct perception is like saying that sound is not to be heard. Exclusion by inference is like saying that a pot is permanent. Exclusion by fame is like saying that the moon with a rabbit is not the moon. Exclusion by one's own words is like saying that inference is not a valid cognition. Thus, the four seeming theses are excluded. Secondly, some people divide the exclusions of commitment, fame, direct perception, and the power of things into four sections, which is unreasonable. Because commitment and fame are both initially shown in brief and finally summarized in meaning, they belong to the same aspect, so there is no need to divide them separately. Moreover, the exclusion of the power of things by inference has already been explained in the chapter on self-interest, so it is not mentioned here. Therefore, there are two here: to explain in detail the exclusion of trust and fame; to explain the exclusion of meaning and audible direct perception. The first has three parts: to include the excluding valid cognition within the category of inference; to explain the nature of the two exclusions separately; to explain the necessity of explaining in detail the manner of obstruction. First, if the excluding inference is divided into three, the power of things by inference has already been explained in the chapter on self-interest, relying on the three signs of effect, nature, and non-perception, but what do the inferences of trust and fame rely on? For the existence of three inferences, commitment, that is, to prove that the scriptural authority is the valid cognition that realizes its own object of attachment, the previous valid cognition has preceded, then the scriptural authority purified by the three examinations is the subject, it is a true causal sign, because on the subject, in order to prove that the dharma to be proven is its own cause, it possesses the three aspects. For those who go, fame, that is, in order to prove that the moon with a rabbit can be expressed by sound, it exists in the object of cognition, that is a true sign of nature, because on the subject, in order to prove that the dharma to be proven is the same entity as oneself, it possesses the three aspects.

Therefore, along with the author, it is explained that both commitment and fame are merely images of the resultant sign and the nature sign, and not real. This refers to what is said in the chapter on self-interest, that the result produced by the power of things, like its own reason, is not real. The second part is divided into two parts: explaining the exclusion of reliance, and explaining the exclusion of fame. The first part is divided into two parts: the general outline and the meaning of the text. The first part is: what is to be explained in this chapter on reliance is, in short, the meaning of the two, commitment and one's own words, being summarized into the word "reliance," and thus explaining the meaning of the example of exclusion being spoken of as one, and explaining the meaning of reliance being spoken of as different from inference, totaling three aspects. The first is "truly certain having," and so on, the second is "therefore, for this," and so on, and the third is "not relying on that," and so on. Through these, for the meaning of reliance being spoken of differently from factual inference, by dividing reliance into two, the reason for commitment being spoken of differently is shown. Therefore, the six verses of "for the sake of harm," and so on, directly show the meaning of commitment being spoken of differently from factual inference. The two verses of "one's own words also," and so on, show the meaning of one's own words being spoken of differently from factual inference. "Therefore, the treatise," and so on, shows the elimination of debate regarding the meaning of commitment being spoken of differently. U Yukpa said: From "not relying on that" onwards, in the door of reasoning, the meaning of commitment and one's own words being spoken of differently is explained. Here there are three: refuting the views of others, establishing one's own views, and determining the scriptural authority to be committed to. The first is divided into two: refuting the desire to differentiate from the aspect of action, and refuting the desire to differentiate from the aspect of object. In the first, expressing the assertion is: from "not relying on that" to "is an obstacle maker." Refuting it is: the two verses of "that treatise," and so on. In the second, expressing the assertion is: the one verse of "therefore, extremely famous," and so on. Refuting it and supplementing the establishment of one's own view is: from the Pramāṇaviniścaya, it is correct to establish differently through the distinction of language. Determining the scriptural authority to be committed to is: the two verses of "examining this," and so on. This is how it is explained. This is very un-
