The three non-apprehensions of own-nature, as the subject of proof. Is it because you believe that establishing the absence of a negating property in any basis is due to a cause or pervasive factor that allows it to appear if it exists? The absence of own-nature must necessarily be non-apprehension, because the cause or pervasive factor of non-appearance, the non-apprehension of own-nature, cannot establish the absence of a negating property in that basis. Third, the inference that apprehends impermanence of color, etc., is the subject of proof. The way in which the universal of impermanence is applied to the universal of color, and the own-character of impermanence is established on the own-character of color, is what is accepted here, because the impermanence of color is connected through mediation and is not deceptive. Second, there are three ways in which cognition through subsequent ascertainment is not valid: it is not valid by apprehending what has already been seen, the proponent of what was seen earlier should be refuted, and avoiding making inference meaningless. First, the definite cognition that ascertains the impermanence of color, which arises after seeing the last moment of color other than through inference, is the subject of proof. It is not reasonable to consider the impermanence of color as valid, because it apprehends by clinging to the impermanence of color that has already been grasped by the direct perception that sees the color that leads to it. Second, if that direct perception does not apprehend impermanence, then the impermanence of color is also the subject of proof. Prior to that definite cognition, it is established from the sense direct perception that apprehends color, because it is not different from the object of color and is of the same substance as it. If the impermanence of color is not different from color, then would it not be impossible to express the impermanence of color as different with the sixth case ending, etc.? Color and the impermanence of color are the subject of proof. That you are the entity of many things is not what is expressed by different words, because you are generated by conceptual thought, and only the many negations of imputed phenomena are what is expressed by different words. Third, there are five: although seen, if uncertain, inference should be applied; although seen, if uncertain, explain the cause of error; although seen, if uncertain, with examples; inference is needed to reverse error; if there is no error, then there is no need for a sign. First, that universal is the basis of impermanence, like sound, is the subject of proof. When you are established by direct perception, then that universal, your impermanence, is established, because you and you

Because the impermanence of sound is a single entity. So, how does inference apply? The correct reason for inferring the impermanence of sound is necessary. Because, even if the impermanence of sound is established through direct perception, if it is not established through definitive understanding, then you apply inference in order to fully establish the impermanence of sound through definitive understanding. Second, although impermanence is seen through direct perception, what is the reason why it cannot be determined by subsequent conceptual thought? In some cases, the arising of conditioned phenomena is seen through direct perception. Although the impermanence of that thing is seen through direct perception, it cannot be fully understood through conceptual thought, because after the moment of that thing, there are other similar things that exist without interruption. This is universal, because the appearance of other similar things causes confusion, therefore, the prior and subsequent moments of things are seen as different, so there is no certainty. For example, different eggs exist in reality, but sensory consciousness does not see them as different. Here, some people give the example that just as sensory consciousness sees the prior and subsequent different eggs, but conceptual thought does not determine them as different, this is unreasonable, because it must be admitted that the sensory consciousness of the wheel-like appearance produced by the rapidly rotating torch is not deluded. The appearance of other similar things is the cause of constant confusion, because based on this reason, whether it is a wise person or a child, they can directly see the destruction of later similar things, such as unrelated lamps, etc., so it can be completely determined by subsequent conceptual thought. Third, although seen through direct perception, it cannot be determined by subsequent conceptual thought, for example, things like seeds. Because your ability to produce sprouts has become your nature, so even if you are established by direct perception of seeing you, sometimes you may be confused about this ability, so it may not be possible to determine, because the result produced from you, such as sprouts, etc., is not seen by the direct perception that sees you. And, the dharma that distinguishes you from things that cannot produce sprouts does not appear in the object of direct perception, because sprouts do not arise immediately from you. Fourth, the impermanence of color and the ability of seeds, etc.
