Because it is determined as non-object and object, and outside of the object, when there are other reasons such as attention and name-holding, the mind is the appearing object of existence; although there is name-holding, etc., if there is no meaning of the appearing object, then it is the appearing object of the mind of non-existence, because the number is determined as two. The second has three: from the way of entering, it shows that the measurable is two, the entering object measurable self-characteristic is summarized as one, and it refutes the contradiction with the saying of these two. The first has three: the previously said two sides are shown as the nature, it explains the existence or non-existence of the nature of things, and it explains the difference of the general characteristic nature. The first has two: the nature of things, refuting the dispute. The first is: what is the nature of the two measurables said as "because the measurable is two"? Self-characteristic and general characteristic dharma, possessing nature. Because your nature exists, any measurable that can function in the ultimate sense, that is, can produce results, and is a unique entity, not the actual object of sound, and is the appearing object of the mind that follows the object, these are all ultimately existent in this treatise. Not being able to function in the ultimate sense, etc., others are conventionally existent here, that is, those that are ultimately existent and conventionally existent are the reasons for saying that they are your nature in order. The meaning of "here" is to show the establishment of the two truths of the Sautrāntika school, as it is said in the Yama, because it shows the establishment of the two truths of the lower vehicle. Therefore, this treatise shows the nature of both self-characteristic and general characteristic, and the nature of the two truths. Combining the pervasiveness of the previous treatise with the nature of both self-characteristic and general characteristic is not in accordance with the current situation. The second has three: refuting the dispute of the first nature, refuting the dispute of the two natures, and refuting the dispute of the latter nature. The first is: the one who speaks of no self-nature says that being able to function in the ultimate sense should not be the nature of self-characteristic, if all knowledge does not have the ability to function in the ultimate sense, then the thesis is not established, because the ability to produce sprouts and smoke, etc., is seen in seeds and fire, etc. If seeing it in that way is only conventional

If it is desired to be born, but not in the ultimate sense, then if it is taken as a characteristic, it is too broad. If birth in the ultimate sense is taken as a characteristic, then it is impossible. If you say so: Whether it is conventional truth or ultimate truth, whatever is seen by valid cognition to have the ability to perform a function is taken as a characteristic. If it is labeled as conventional, then why argue about the name? Because we call the ability to perform a function itself the ultimate truth. Second, if the ability to perform a function is a self-characteristic, and the inability to perform a function is the basis of a common characteristic, then it is not appropriate, because all self and common characteristics have the ability to perform a function in the ultimate sense. If you say so: The nature of the common characteristic is not beneficial to the mind that grasps the common characteristic, because it has not been seen that the mind that grasps the common characteristic follows you. If you have not seen what it is like, then it has not been seen like the eye consciousness arising after the eye, form, and attention, etc. It is said that the reason why the grasping of the general does not arise from the general is that there is another need, because the substance with limbs established by the Vaibhashikas, such as a vase, and the establishment, that is, action, and the generality of the vase itself, and the numbers such as two and three, and so on, that is, the difference, and the collection, that is, the mind that grasps the six meanings of the word, does not arise from things, etc., because it is said that it does not follow things, etc. From what does it arise? The conceptual mind that grasps things, etc., has a cause, because it follows only the internal limbs such as the memory of understanding words and the activity of the mind. The third has four: refuting that hair, etc., are common characteristics; refuting similarity with non-existent things; explaining how hair appearance transforms into self and common characteristics; and refuting arguments about the nature of self-characteristics. First, if what has no ability to perform a function in the ultimate sense is a common characteristic, then do the hairs, etc., that appear to the mistaken sense consciousness also become common characteristics? If you say so: The hairs, etc., that appear to the mistaken sense consciousness are not common characteristics, because the consciousness that appears to itself does not make statements by way of clinging to reality. Second, then non-existent things should also become not common characteristics, because there is no clinging to reality for them. If you say so: For non-existent things, it should not be a fault of not being a common characteristic.
