If one relies on an excellent individual, believing that his words have true meaning, and other rational people can also understand, thereby being able to establish the meaning to be expressed, then? The second situation is divided into two: There is no excellent individual for others; For oneself, an excellent individual is established. The first situation is: If one can know that an excellent individual is such and such, it is also reasonable to admit that his words have true meaning, but ordinary people have the characteristic that it is difficult to truly know whether others are excellent individuals, because for others, having such faults or not being so, it is difficult to find a valid means that has objects with or without defects, which is known by other Buddhists. The second situation is divided into three: Showing that it is possible to abandon faults; Showing that abandoning does not revert; Refuting disputes over the cause of faults. The first situation is: Then, is it absolutely impossible for an individual who has exhausted faults to exist? All phenomena such as attachment have the characteristic that they have an antidote that contradicts themselves—realizing selflessness, because when realizing selflessness increases, you (attachment, etc.) decrease, and when realizing selflessness decreases, you rely on excellence. Therefore, some individuals have the characteristic that all outflows of afflictions will be exhausted, because through long-term habituation to realizing selflessness, the mindstream will become the nature of realizing selflessness. The second situation is: Even if faults are exhausted once, will they revert again, just as a mind that previously had faults later becomes faultless? When one is separated from all the harms of samsara through the practice of the path, there is no harm, and impermanence, etc., are objects of self-characteristics, so they are the nature of the path of true meaning, and for the nature of the mind that has become the antidote to faults, the characteristic is that the reversed, that is, the faults of harm, non-truth, and non-self-nature cannot be stopped, because it is impossible to see faults on the path and see merits on afflictions, so one will not strive to abandon it, and even if one strives, the mind will cling to the path—realizing selflessness, because one only strives for it. The third situation is: If the increase and decrease of realizing selflessness leads to the increase and decrease of the cause of faults—attachment, etc., then

If it is said that clinging to self is the cause of ignorance, then this contradicts the statement that ignorance is the cause of faults. This is not contradictory, because all the faults of samsara arise from clinging to the view of the perishable aggregate, and that view of the perishable is ignorance. Therefore, there is reason to say that the cause of faults is ignorance, because under the influence of ignorance, one clings to the self, and from that, one clings to what belongs to the self. From these two clingings, all faults such as hatred arise. In other sutras, the view of the perishable aggregate is considered the main cause, because abandoning that view of the perishable leads to the abandonment of all faults. Third, the assertion that the sound of the scriptures proves the truth also seems incorrect, and this is divided into two cases: refuting the proof by the sign of being non-human-made; refuting the proof by the sign of being non-deceptive. The first case is divided into two: stating the position; explaining the refutation. First, the scriptures, as a thing, have a true meaning, because they reveal the meaning expressed, and are not human-made. This is universal, because the cause of words having false meanings is faults and clinging, etc., and these depend on humans. Therefore, some reasoners will say that the scriptures are not deceptive in the meaning they express. The second case is divided into three: refuting the universal validity of the root sign; refuting the root reason by analysis; refuting what is to be proven by the root sign. The first case is divided into two: refuting by commonly accepted reasoning; refuting by self-contradictory promises. First, the scriptures, as a thing, why can't they have false meanings? They do have false meanings, because they reveal the meaning expressed, and are not human-made. This is universal, because the reason for words having true meanings is qualities such as wisdom and compassion, and these depend on humans. Therefore, other Buddhists will say this. The second case is divided into two: presenting the inference; refuting the defense against the error. First, the words of the scriptures, as a thing, even if your essence is not made by humans, may still show false meanings, because the signs that make you understand the meaning depend on humans. The second case is divided into two: stating the defense against the error; refuting it. First, the reason is not established, because the relationship between the sound and meaning of the scriptures
