Because this is the cause of doubt. The second part has three aspects: The teacher believes that as a sign of reason, its connection must be determined. If there is no connection, refutation is established, then it will be too broad. Through the power of connection, pervasion can be proven. The first point is: The teacher Dignāga believes that for a sign to become a correct sign, its connection with its own nature must be determined. If there is no connection, then because it is not a valid indicator, the property of the subject cannot be established; the opposite meaning, i.e., contradiction; and the excess of contradiction consistent with this faction; and the confusing, i.e., the common uncertainty; and the excess of correctness consistent with it; and the antidote to uncommon uncertainty, in sequence, are the property of the subject, concomitance, and reverse pervasion, i.e., all three modes of reasoning need to be determined by the power of valid cognition (pramāṇa). As it is said in the Compendium of Valid Cognition: "What is completely established in both is proof." Both refer to the thesis and the similar side, and completely established refers to certainty. Some people explain that this is what Dignāga said. The second part has three aspects: refuting by contradicting one's own school's scriptures; refuting by common factual power and reasoning; refuting by contradicting the commitments of other schools. The first part has six aspects: reverse pervasion should not be expressed; excess should not be confusing; the living should be a valid indicator; doubt should become a sign; hearing and the author should both be excluded; preventing contact should be reasonable. The first point is: The teacher Īśvarasena and others believe that refutation is established merely because it is not seen in the dissimilar side, and the teacher also believes this. Then, in the Hetucakraḍamaru, for the antidote to confusing uncertainty, why is it said that it is necessary to state to the refuter the reasoning of establishing reverse pervasion in dissimilar examples? What is the meaning of this? If the sign is not seen in the dissimilar side, then it is an understood result or necessary condition. Because even if you don't say it, this necessary condition will be understood. If you think so, then the Hetucakraḍamaru says that for the time being, for the antidote to contradiction and uncertainty, both should be stated, which contradicts the statement "This is reasoning." Even if you only understand not seeing, you need to state the certainty of not being in the dissimilar side, if you say so.

If one assumes non-existence merely from not seeing, then even with statements proving reverse pervasion in the example of dissimilar instances, which is called "non-existent in dissimilar instances," it is said to the subject: From you, the fact that the reason is definitely non-existent in dissimilar instances is not established, because you only state that you have not seen the reason in dissimilar instances, and do not state the reasoning of non-existence. If it also becomes like that for you, then, if one speaks in the manner of establishing reverse pervasion in the example of dissimilar instances, then, subject, you realize that the reason is non-existent in dissimilar instances, and if one states the reasoning of the reason being non-existent in dissimilar instances, that is, the relationship of the nature of the reason-property, then the statement of proof is without fault. The meaning of saying dissimilar dharma, which is explained in the statement of proof of dissimilar combination, is that from the statement "the reason is non-existent in dissimilar instances," one must accept the realization that the reason is non-existent in similar instances, therefore it contradicts the preceding and subsequent scriptures that prohibit the establishment of meaning from the statement, and it is also understood from the statement that it cannot become an antidote to delusion. Secondly, if reverse pervasion is established merely from not seeing the reason in dissimilar instances, that is, it is definitely non-existent in dissimilar instances, then this statement is also the precursor to all the following views. For example, using the reason of being similar in shape to a ripe fruit to prove that the remaining fruit is not ripe, such a remaining subject, if so, then it is a deluder of reverse pervasion, or not a deluder, because the reason is established merely from not seeing it in dissimilar instances. If you admit, then it contradicts what the teacher said, "Because the shapes and so on are similar, the tastes and so on must also be similar, this is not reasonable." Thirdly, the reason of life and so on, which is fabricated by logicians as being reverse merely from not seeing in both sides, that subject, becomes a valid reason for proving that a living body possesses self, because the subject-property of that which is to be proven is established, and it is merely not seen in dissimilar instances. If you admit, then it contradicts what the teacher said that it is similar to a reductio ad absurdum and a pseudo-reason. Fourthly, the reason for doubting whether it exists or not in dissimilar instances, that subject, combined with the reason that is not established due to doubting the property of the subject, becomes a fault of not establishing reverse pervasion.
