It is considered that only the arising of conceptual thoughts within oneself is direct perception, and that which does not give rise to conceptual thoughts, even if grasped, is as if not grasped. Regarding that which does not give rise to certainty, since all methods are not applicable to pursuing its meaning, it can be said that it is not a valid cognition. Otherwise, it is not so. Some earlier scholars said that considering direct perception as certain and denying that which does not give rise to certainty is not a valid cognition is unreasonable. Because in the realm of the Buddha, there will be no valid cognition, because there is no factor that produces certainty there. If this argument is not established, then if the wisdom of the Buddha is direct perception, it will not pervade everything. Therefore, the meaning of these words is that if all worldly valid cognitions, whether by self-power or other-power, necessarily lead to the generation of certainty. This principle has already been explained in detail in the general meaning. The second part is divided into two points: if there is a difference, then the certainty of non-existence is established. Explaining the various ways of establishing the certainty of non-existence. The first point is: if it is thought that it is impossible to understand the certainty of non-existence on an unobserved sign, then, as the excellence of the sign, the unobserved with the difference of visibility, to some extent, will make one understand the certainty of non-existence, which becomes a valid cognition, that is, a correct sign. Because if the visible is unobserved, it is necessarily certain that it does not exist. If so, then the statement that "unobserved does not prove non-existence" is contradictory. This is not contradictory, because for those things that even exist, cannot be known by observation because of their own nature (that is, their own essence), and cannot be known from the sign that is the source of knowledge, unobserved cannot prove the certainty of non-existence. Because for existing things, valid cognition does not necessarily observe them. This reasoning is because it is a statement. The second part is divided into two points: establishing the certainty of non-existence by negating the five relations. Establishing the certainty of non-existence by observing the five contradictions. The first part is divided into two points: establishing by negating the cause and the pervasive. Establishing by negating the visible nature. The first point is: if for the unobserved sign of the invisible, the negation of the relation of arising from that is established on the dharma, then how is the relation established for the visible unobserved argument? For the unobserved argument of cause and pervasive, in the two cases of concomitance and contradiction, contradiction and direct establishment of the relation of arising from that and the relation of essential identity. All other visible unobserved arguments ultimately negate what is to be negated by means of the valid cognition not observing what is to be negated.

As it is said that it is certain to establish non-existence, and ultimately the relationship of a single self is established as real, the following explains these contents in order. If the cause of smoke, namely fire, is not known, then it is non-apprehension, as the subject. On a certain basis, the effect, smoke, is certain to be proven non-existent, because the three aspects of such proof are complete. For the non-apprehension of the nature of trees, it is also the subject. On a certain basis, the nature of the meaning of just trees, the absence of deer tracks, is taken as the subject, then this is a correct reason, because the three aspects of such proof are complete. Moreover, if it exists on a certain basis, then by means of some reasons of the cause and pervasion that should appear but are not apprehended, it can be known that the effect and the pervaded do not exist, otherwise it cannot, because if the cause and pervasion that should appear but are not apprehended, the effect and the pervaded do not exist, then it is not pervasive. Second, should appear, such as a vase, when the cause of not seeing, such as obscuration, is impossible, then as the subject. If the object of the vase that should appear exists, then from the reason that it should appear but is not apprehended, it can be known that the object of the vase that should appear does not exist on a certain basis, because if the vase that should appear is not apprehended, then it is pervasive with non-existence. Second, cold touch, as the subject. Taking the apprehension of the contradiction of you and it not coexisting as the reason, then it can be determined that you certainly do not exist on a certain basis, because even if there is something that contradicts and does not coexist with you, it is an obstacle to your existence. Third, there are five: Grasping three meanings and establishing non-contradiction, refuting that sound and meaning are self-characterized, refuting sound and meaning becomes a fault, showing that the object of investigation is only self-characterized, dispelling the doubt of contradicting the scriptures. First, some say that by the reason of non-apprehension, preventing definite existence is establishing definite non-existence, if this is the case, then the reason stated by Dignāga, "The self is non-existent, because it is not apprehended," this reason does not become a reason of non-apprehension, because it cannot establish definite non-existence or prevent definite existence, if the self exists, then it cannot be prevented, and the word "non-existent" is also unreasonable, if it does not exist, then the subject does not exist, therefore the basis of that reason does not exist, and the word "self" is also not applicable. If it is thought in this way, then it is accomplished by the conceptual thought arising from the previous habit from beginningless time, that is, the imputation of
