If it is said that it is unreasonable for the self-character to be the direct object of expression of sound, because when saying "a water-holding pot," it is to take the ability to perform the function of holding water, then, the self-character as the subject, is not the direct object of expression of speech, because it is not the direct object of designation. Pervasive, because the sounds of speech are all to show the meaning that is designated. The reason is that the self-character cannot be directly given a designation, because at the time of naming, there is no self-nature of the designation at the time of naming, therefore. Pervasive, because the designation is made for the purpose of understanding the meaning at the time of naming. The second view is that the Vaisheshika and Samkhya schools say that, according to the order, the things that are different from the substance from the manifestation, and the universal concepts that are the same as the manifestation and the substance, do not depend on illusion, are the direct objects of designation, and exist at the time of naming, so there is no problem as mentioned earlier. If someone thinks this way, then, that view that only takes the genus as the object of expression, the genus of the cow as the subject, should not be the direct object of the designation called "cow" without relying on illusion. Because it cannot act as the function of a cow, pervasive, because when starting to designate, in any case, the person seeking the meaning of the cow must know the function of the cow in order to achieve it. Because it is thought that it will involve the things that act, so naming is done in order to express things. The third part is divided into two points: stating the view and refuting the view. The first point is that the manifestation related to that genus has a function, so naming does not have the problem as mentioned earlier. The second part is divided into three points: the manifestation related to the genus is the same as the mere manifestation; there is no need to examine other universal concepts; even without other universal concepts, it is reasonable to recognize. The first point is, why not directly give the designation to the manifestation that is revered by the universal concept? If someone asks, because it cannot be named because it is infinite, then, the manifestations related to the genus as the subject, you cannot name it, because this is the same as infinite, because the genus does not reduce the number of manifestations. The second point is that the functions of milking, plowing, etc., compared to all things that do not perform these functions, in external things

If someone asks, why isn't the exclusion of the other, which dispels illusion, taken as sound (referring to the meaning of words)? The answer is that, for stating things that possess that kind of attribute, Dignāga and Dharmakīrti also established faults such as "because things that possess that attribute do not have autonomy," and this is the same. If someone asks: What if our "possessing genus" and your "possessing exclusion" are similar except for the name? Answer: These faults will be explained as non-existent below. Even if these faults are established, they are acceptable. For example, the manifested dharmas are the subject. For you, the mind can understand through sound alone, without the need for other realistic genera. Because even without other generic meanings, the mind can understand sound in the same way as things that are not it. The reason is, does the sound "cow" not distinguish or distinguish non-cow things? If it is like the first case, then the sound "cow" is the subject. If it is like that, then how can the applied (name) have meaning? It should be meaningless. Because if you do not distinguish those things you do not want from those you want, then it is for this reason. This is pervasive. Because the speaker believes that after completely excluding things other than what he wants, the listener will focus on what he wants, so he utters the sound. Or, it is said that it is necessary not only to exclude non-it things, but also to focus on it. The explanation says that this is the only meaning. If it is like the second case, this sound is not without distinction, but has distinction, then the sound will not become unnecessary. Vaiśeṣika, is the subject. It is unreasonable that the application of sound is other generic meanings. Isn't the necessity of sound just distinguishing other things and focusing on what is desired? If so, then what is the use of other common meanings for you? There is no need at all. The third part has three aspects: explaining the cause of generating recognition; dispelling other causes of generating recognition; eliminating disputes about the cause of recognition. The first point is: If there is no common "universal," then the mind of recognition will not arise for many manifested things. If someone asks this, then the manifestation of the vase is the subject. Even without a common "universal," different things can generate the mind of recognition, which is reasonable. For example, like a clay pot, doing the same thing—fetching water, having seen the clay pot before, even if later seeing gold pots and other things, can fetch water, and has the function of a pot, in addition, it will not produce other functions, and is far from (other functions) the realm of exclusion.
