Not understanding it as one, it is distinguished in order to understand. This is its meaning. Here, in most of the previous cases, the reason for applying the general term, and the reason for applying the terms of dharma and dharmī, are divided into separate chapters, because it is not understood that the general term is applied to the appearance of discrimination, just as the terms of dharma and dharmī are also applied to the appearance of discrimination, guiding in an analogous way, that is, because the way of applying the general term has already been said. And, in the self-commentary, it is also said that in the sense of appearing in perception, the general and the common basis, and the terms of dharma and dharmī, etc., are added. Because the general term is not mentioned in the middle of what is said. The third is that this sound and meaning that has become the object of the terms of dharma and dharmī, and the common basis itself that was previously mentioned, this is the dharmī, it is impossible in the self-characterized entity, because it does not exist in reality, but it appears in discrimination, expressing it as it is known in the world, therefore, the previous words "this sound and meaning" are applied to the general, because in the context of "how it is imputed," it has already been shown that the general does not exist in the ultimate sense, so the common basis and dharma and dharmī are applied to things that do not exist in the ultimate sense, and based on this, the special meaning of the words "this sound and meaning" is not understood. The fourth is, what is the necessity of establishing terms even though they do not exist in reality? If one thing has different distinctions of dharma and dharmī, and what kind of difference is the common basis, and what kind of difference is not the general distinction, if the meaning of itself is not examined, but only relying on the worldly saying as it is known in the world, then what is to be proven and what can be proven can be established, this is what the wise have done, this is the dharmī, it is necessary, because it is for the sake of entering the realization of the self-characterized reality of the ultimate meaning. This is because appearance, permanence, and oneness are mistaken as one, and by making refutations and establishments, applying the object of entry to obtain self-characterization to everything. The fifth is that the self-characterized things of the meaning of the ultimate meaning, this is the dharmī, your many and one nature, and the terms of one and many, are the delusion of the mind, that is, it is a mistake, because your many will not mix into one with its own nature, and one will not become different many. This is the general. This is the special. Distinguishing like this

The current terminology is dharma. It refers to the meaning that appears in conceptual thought, not directly to the self-character, because it is a verbal thought that mixes many things into one or divides one thing into many. This is universal, because such a thing is impossible for the self-character. If what appears in the mind is false, then how are different dharmas possible? For the appearance of the concept itself, it is a dharma. In illusion, various differences of dharmas are speculated in detail, because in illusion, it appears as something that is the opposite of various other errors. Sixth, then the teacher Dignāga of the Vaibhāṣika school says that inference grasps the particularity that is distinguished by excluding others. This contradicts the view that grasps the self-character mixed with the universal. This is to be established. For the concept that thinks, "This is to be established, this is the reason for establishing it," it is a dharma. It does not directly grasp the self-character that is distinguished by impermanence, because the self-character of things is seen, that is, the appearance disappears. Dignāga says, "Inference grasps the particularity mixed with the universal," for this statement, it is a dharma. It does not show that one's own characteristic mixed with the universal is the object to be grasped by inference, because it shows that the particularity mixed with the universal that appears in the concept and is distinguished by excluding others is the object to be grasped by inference. That self-character is a dharma. The aspect of the universal and the aspect of the particular, etc., whether as a dharma or a possessor of dharma, are not directly objects to be grasped by the concept, because many differences of the characteristics of dharmas cannot exist in that one alone. Seventh, sound and concept are also dharmas. There is no such thing as directly realizing that self-character, that is, the nature that is the opposite of all non-self-characters, because it directly points to the universal itself. From grasping the nature to here is a summarizing verse. Second, explaining the way in which special sounds are applied has four parts: refuting the object of expression of the intention of other schools, establishing the object of expression of the intention of one's own school, refuting the arguments of other schools within it, and summarizing and explaining the meaning of both refutation and establishment. The first has three parts: refuting that the self-character is the object of expression, refuting that the general object is the object of expression, and refuting that the possessor of the general object is the object of expression. First, for the statement, "There is no sound that realizes it in that way," in the statements
