These sounds are the subject of the proposition. There is no difference in the meaning expressed other than the difference of abandoning or not abandoning other distinctions, because it is merely expressing the same meaning through various modes of expression. Secondly, for Buddhists who consider the exclusion of others as the object (referring to the Vaisheshika school), it is the subject of the proposition. The fault of expressing the same is refuted for the Vaisheshika school's view of wanting to express the particularity that is different from the meaning of the genus, because there is no difference in meaning when reversed. There is pervasiveness, because the genus, i.e., the general, and those related to it are different entities. If one wants to make words refer to the particular through other general meanings, then these three faults will occur. What are the three? Sound is the subject of the proposition. It does not freely refer to clarity, because it refers to clarity after expressing other general meanings. The differences that clarity possesses will not become the same basis, because sound has not abandoned the differences that clarity possesses. Sound is the subject of the proposition. Referring to clarity also becomes imputed, because it expresses other general meanings, as Dignāga stated. The third part has three points: showing that other schools have these faults, showing that oneself does not have these faults, and clearly explaining how these faults arise in other schools. The first point, the Vaisheshika school says: If the dharma and the possessor of dharma are not different, then the differences of the sixth case and the plural, etc., would not be reasonable. If according to the views of the Vaisheshika school and grammarians, the sixth case and plural words, etc., are expressed due to the difference of things, not relying on the intention to express primarily, then for those people, it is the subject of the proposition. The distinction of the sixth case and words, i.e., plural, etc., such as "the substance of the cow is the cow itself," those words will not refer to the other, because there is no difference in meaning. This is a similar objection. The second point, according to our view, any sixth case and plural words, etc., are the subject of the proposition. Even if there is no difference in meaning, it can refer, because without relying on the difference of external meaning, how the speaker, i.e., the expresser, determines the difference and non-difference of meaning is the expresser himself, because the expresser is also the expresser of the difference and non-difference of meaning. The third point, the reference of singular and plural words is entirely determined by whether the things are one or many.

If one wants to pervade, then a single woman and a single grain of sand have the property of being subjects. It follows that plural words such as "many consorts" and "many grains of sand" should not be allowed. What different reason is there for considering them different? There is no reason. Also, the six cities have the property of being subjects. It follows that the singular word "a string of mansions" should not be allowed. What single reason is there for considering them as one, since they are not different? There is no reason. Or this is citing the following example: Space has the property of being a subject. It follows that the word "the nature of space" which is the sixth, and the phrase "the essence of space is space itself" should not allow the sound of "benefit." What difference is there in the meaning of these sounds? There is no difference. Secondly, there are four ways in which sounds that gather different things into one are used by eliminating conceptualizations: Different things appear as one, and are named as a general class. Negate that the named thing is established in meaning. Therefore, it is shown that the conceptualization that holds the general is mistaken. The cause of the lineage of that mistake is explained. The first is from the auto-commentary: Now, how are things that are of a single, reversed nature called general? Because they are unrelated and also non-existent. What is the nature of the general has already been explained. Things that are not mixed are mutual, and things that are not related are the similarity of things that are the opposite of that. It is also said. It is also said that for that meaning, some say that there are two kinds of general: those that exist in meaning and those that exist in mind. The first is that all vases are said to be general because they are equally different from non-vases, because they pervade all vases. The second is that in conceptualization, all vases appear in different forms, and that which holds them as one is itself, because similar things are mixed together. For this, it is unreasonable to think that the former has been explained and the latter is shown here. Because the similar general that pervades all vases has not been explained before, but the general that distinguishes many opposites of a single vase itself has been explained. Moreover, both of the generals that you think are the same are explained by the following words, "relying on different things." Some say that the general is the general of things that are different from other things and unrelated to different kinds, so it is approximated as a general by other names only by its own characteristics, that is, similar things and other things.
