If asked why, it is because some sentient beings can enter some embodied beings without obstruction. Because the intermediate state body, although embodied, is a subtle and pure body, it can enter wombs and the like without obstruction. For example, like water on new pottery, and like mercury on refined and tempered gold. If it is said that entering the womb is also unreasonable because it is not seen, then, O Lokayata, just because you have not seen it, it is not correct to say that there is no entering the womb, because your senses are not clear, so it has already been said that entering the womb is not seen. The sixth issue is divided into two: a single substance with limbs is not a reasonable cause; and a body with many limbs is also not a reasonable cause. The first issue is divided into three: refuting a single substance with limbs; avoiding excessive inferences about it; and explaining the refutation of other views. The first issue is: if it is the immediate cause of body and mind, then is it a coarse single substance body, or a body of many particles? If according to the first case, then all parts of the body except the hand are the subject. If any one of the hands, etc., moves, you should move, because you and any one of the hands, etc., are an indivisible single substance. This is pervasive, because contradictory activities such as moving and not moving are impossible for an indivisible single substance. If it is said that when the hand moves, it is the limb that moves, not the one with the limb, then the one with the limb is the subject. You should become a substance different from the limb, because the limb is moving, but you are not moving elsewhere. Also, all parts of the body except the head are the subject. If one part like the head is covered by clothes, you should be covered, or if one part is not covered by clothes, you should also be seen as not covered by clothes, because you and the head are an indivisible single substance. Also, all parts of the body except the face are the subject. If one part like the face is changed by paint, you should also be changed by paint, or if one part is not changed, you should also be recognized as not changed, because you and the face are an indivisible single substance. Therefore, the body composed of many particles is the subject. It is merely a collection of many particles, not a single substance, because it has many attributes such as moving and not moving. The second issue is divided into two: stating excessive inferences; and explaining the refutation of it.

Firstly, the Vaisheshika school says that substances with limbs such as bodies and vases do not exist as a single entity, but rather exist as multiple atoms. However, bodies, vases, etc., should not be cognized by sense consciousness and should not be able to obstruct touch. This is because they are no different from the previous atoms that are beyond the scope of sense consciousness and cannot obstruct touch, and also because they are the same as the previous ultimate atoms, just like the atoms when the gross matter was not yet formed. If this is the case, the second point is divided into two parts: the undifferentiated ultimate atom as a basis is not established; if it is established, then it is also the same for other schools. The first point is that bodies, etc., even if you are an atom, it is not established that you are no different from the previous atom that is beyond the senses, because the previous atom encountered other atoms, thereby giving rise to your state, so you are different from the previous one. The distinctive atoms, i.e., bodies, etc., are dharmas. Even though you are actually an atom, you are not called an atom, because even though you are an atom, you are its object by generating an image in sense consciousness. This is stated in the auto-commentary of the Tattvasamgraha: "Although mental direct perception is a valid cognition, it does not obtain the name of valid cognition because it cannot derive certainty from itself, just as the object of sense consciousness is the ultimate atom, but since it does not appear there, it is not considered an object." This is the meaning of what is said. Nowadays, most people think that the atom is not the object of sense consciousness, which is the view of this treatise, because they have not paid attention to the view of the Sautrantika school as explained in the Seven Treatises. The Sautrantikas believe that the atom has no parts in terms of direction, and that the moments of consciousness before and after have no parts, are true. And they believe that the object-appearing direct perception and self-awareness direct perception that hold these are not mistaken. They believe that all grossness and permanence are conventional, and that the conceptual thoughts that hold these are mistaken. Therefore, since many atoms do not form a single gross substance, there is actually no gross substance that has transformed from atoms. Sense consciousness does not apprehend it, but the many atoms that touch each other are apprehended by sense consciousness, because they are the cause of generating an image in sense consciousness. The statement that atoms are not apprehended by sense consciousness refers to independent atoms that have not touched each other, which is the view of the Sutras and the Pramanavarttika.
