Secondly, if it is thought that the reason why things appear clear or unclear depending on their distance is not that there is no seeing, but that relying on virtuous and non-virtuous actions, various new clear and unclear forms arise from the form that was originally present in one of the clear or unclear states, and because they are located at different distances, they are seen separately. Then, do these newly arisen forms obstruct each other, or do they not? If they obstruct each other, then these forms become the subject of the thesis, because they obstruct the appearance to the consciousness that has its own object, because they obstruct each other. If you accept this, then for the consciousness of a person looking at the same object from different distances, these newly arisen forms will not appear, but the single original form that exists in one of the clear or unclear states will appear, because that form is capable of appearing, and there is an obstruction to the appearance of the clear and unclear forms. If you say that the forms produced by action do not obstruct each other, then for two people looking at the same object from different distances, each should simultaneously see the clear and unclear nature, because both the clear and unclear are capable of appearing without any obstruction. If you say that an invisible action obstructs one of the clear or unclear, so it is not seen, then what is the use of the invisible action for mere clear and unclear? Because they are not the result of virtuous and non-virtuous actions, because in the continuum from which you arise, there is no action that benefits meaning or harms non-meaning. Thirdly, if there is no aspect of the object, then it is unreasonable for things to appear clear or unclear from the difference in appearance and function. Therefore, even if you accept the object, the experience that arises in reliance on the object should, like the awakening of latent tendencies, grasp various different aspects such as clear and unclear. Whatever grasps different aspects, the rest, even without the aspect of the object, grasps the object as clear or unclear through the difference in appearance and function, etc., which is a bad system for the foolish. Seventh, even when the object of apprehension ceases, there is still appearance. There are two proofs for this: the object ceases, and the appearance is known.

Established. Refuting the views of others regarding the appearance of external objects. The first part is: The moments of consciousness, sound, light, etc., are the subject. For what reason do they not clearly appear in the direct perception and conceptual consciousness that apprehend themselves? Because they have already ceased at the time when the direct perception and conceptual consciousness that apprehend themselves arise. Because the direct perception that apprehends itself and the other conceptual consciousness are the causes of their arising, therefore they have arisen before them. Therefore, even if it is a single object, since the mind itself appears as the form of the object, it is established that the mind has the aspect of dualistic appearance. The second part is divided into two points: Refuting the appearance of simultaneous objects, and refuting the appearance of the cause itself. The first point is: The previous objects do not exist at the time of consciousness, so they will not appear. But if it is said that from the previous objects, the objects that arise simultaneously with consciousness will clearly appear in consciousness, then the object that is simultaneous with consciousness is the subject. It should not clearly appear in consciousness. Because it is another object that does not benefit consciousness. If this pervasion is not established, then for something like auditory consciousness, all objects will clearly appear. Because other objects that are not beneficial will also clearly appear. If it is said that the simultaneous object, although it does not benefit, will definitely appear in the simultaneous consciousness, because its reason is that it and consciousness arise simultaneously from the previous object. Then, this conceptual thought that the simultaneous object and consciousness are object and subject because they arise from one cause is also the subject. This is impossible. If it is possible, then the sense consciousness that arises simultaneously with consciousness from the previous sense faculty will also become the object of consciousness. Therefore, for the sense consciousness produced by the previous object, even if the previous object does not actually appear, it should be said that the previous object appears clearly, because it appears in the form given by the previous object. How can other objects that arise simultaneously with consciousness clearly appear in simultaneous consciousness? It should not appear. Because simultaneous consciousness does not give form with a form similar to itself. Because it does not benefit simultaneous consciousness, it does not give form to it.
