The object appearing to consciousness, if you assert it as the expressible, then, since sound does not express the meaning of external objects, it is not the same to infer that it does not engage with external objects. Because when sound expresses it through the way that you and the external object are considered as one, a consciousness arises in which the nature of the object appears as such an external object, and from this, it will engage with the object. Third, for those who assert that other names etc. are the expressible, the reason why sound engages with meaning, it is inferred that the delusion of meaning in the appearance of consciousness does not exist, because the consciousness that appears as the image of external object meaning is not admitted. Fourth, if one admits the consciousness that clings to names etc. as meaning, then, the consciousness that grasps names etc., the subject, from the perspective of an entity other than you, names etc. different from you are not established by valid cognition as your apprehended object, because from the perspective of an entity other than you, names etc. different from you do not establish your negation through the power of inversion. Fifth, if it is certain that all consciousnesses possess apprehended objects, then the consciousness that grasps names etc. is also established as possessing the apprehended object of names etc., because it is not permissible for forms etc. to possess the meaning of self-characteristics, if you think so, then, the statement that if it is consciousness, it is pervaded by possessing an apprehended object is not valid, because dream consciousness etc. appear from images other than possessing an apprehended object. If you say that this is not established, because dream consciousness also arises from having conditioned phenomena as the apprehended object, then, dream consciousness, the subject, also does not arise from having conditioned phenomena as the apprehended object, because it appears as blue and shapes etc. If the pervasion is admitted, it is because conditioned phenomena are considered to be separate from color and shape. If you say that in dream consciousness, blue etc. self-characteristics appear directly, then, the image of blue etc. appearing in dream consciousness, the subject, is not blue etc. self-characteristics, because it appears unobstructed on walls etc. Therefore, it, the subject, is consciousness and not an external object, because other people who are in the visible realm do not know when it appears, but the dreamer himself knows when it appears. This is the reasoning that shows that the image appearing in a dream is consciousness.

Knowing is the subject. Names, etc., that become objects of conceptualization are said to be known, which is established because names, etc., that become objects of conceptualization do not appear to others, but appear to oneself and are known, in order to show this reason. Furthermore, non-deceptive consciousnesses such as the eye, which are considered to possess apprehended objects, why are they considered meaningful? If other causes are complete but there is no apprehended object, it does not arise, because the capacity of the apprehended object is seen. If so, then apart from sense consciousness, conceptualization is the subject. It should become something that is devoid of apprehended objects, because it does not rely on the capacity of apprehended objects. Second, does sound utter only names, etc., that are unrelated to any mental object? If so, then a person seeking meaning is the subject. It should not be the case that the sound of "pot" refers to a pot, because the sound of "pot" does not utter pot. Third, if sound only utters names, etc., that are related to and possess the own-character of the object, if so, then the present is the subject. The past and future should not be the objects of sound, because the own-character of the past object and the names, etc., related to it have ceased, and the own-character of the future object and the names, etc., have not yet arisen. The second has two parts: stating the assertion and refuting it. First, the Vaisheshika says, even if an object is the actual object of sound, it is not accepted that the senses, etc., become meaningless, because sound actually utters the pervasive universal object. Therefore, from sound, the universal is actually understood, and the own-character appears and is understood, so the senses, etc., are necessary. The second has four parts: the pervasive universal itself is not expressed; if expressed, it is harmed by two consequences; refuting the fault of the latter consequence; it is harmed by the consequence of causelessness. First, sound is the subject. It is not the case that the fault of the senses, etc., becoming meaningless is not allowed because of the reason of actually expressing the pervasive universal, because the universal is not expressed as pervasive. Second, it is unestablished. If it is said that there is a pervasive universal and sound expresses it, then that universal is the subject. It should not be the case that it follows equally in all appearances, and it should not be the case that the mind that grasps itself is illuminated by appearances, etc., because it is pervasive without relying on appearances. The latter inference
