Relying on authentic spiritual mentors such as Ba bda's lama, and practicing the instructions (14) as they are, being guided by an authentic spiritual mentor is the primary cause, so relying on them in this way is the tenth point. Here, completely cutting off all biases towards what is established by terms and conceptual constructs, not contradicting anything, and surpassing everything, generating the certainty that the original state of affairs is the natural state of reality. This is the object-condition for not being mistaken in meditation, so it is the eleventh point to ascertain this way. Without attachment to meditation, generating diligence and perseverance, and not thinking things like, "I am meditating," "I will meditate," "I have meditated," "It's good if it arises, it's not good if it doesn't arise," and not making any signs of hope or fear, this state free from hope and fear is the immediate condition, so practicing in an uncorrected state is the twelfth point, which is the preliminary practice. The main practice (15) consists of calm abiding and insight. First is calm abiding. In general, there are many ways to generate samadhi, but if you know one key point, obstacles and hindrances will not arise, and flawless calm abiding and insight, the innate wisdom experience, will arise effortlessly. This is because the Dharma is taught from the perspective of the body of Vairochana, so the method for effortlessly generating the samadhi of the generation and completion stages and the experience of bliss-clarity-non-conceptuality is that for beginners, it depends on the key points of the body. That is, in order to control the downward-clearing wind, the legs are arranged in the vajra posture or the hero's posture. In order for the earth wind to abide in the central channel, the spine should be straightened like an arrow. In order for the water wind to enter the central channel, the hands are arranged in the equipoise mudra below the navel, and the tips of the arms should support each other. In order for the fire wind to enter the central channel, the throat should be bent slightly like a hook. In order for the wind of wind (16) to enter the central channel, the eyes should be neither open nor closed, but looking at the tip of the nose. The tongue is in its natural state, or the tip of the tongue touches the upper palate. In this way, by arranging the key points of the body, the flow of conceptual thoughts is naturally purified, and many qualities such as non-conceptuality arise. Moreover, the key points of the body should be arranged moderately, so that the body and mind are comfortable and relaxed, not too tight and not too loose. First, exhale a little air, and then stop the effort of exhaling and inhaling. Clarify the preliminary practices a little, and then recall the past.

Do not think about what to do in the future, do not think about doing this or doing that. In the present moment, leave the ordinary consciousness, which has not been modified, in its natural, relaxed state, without acceptance or rejection, so that the mind can be capable and samadhi can arise. Therefore, such key points of body and mind are the foundation of meditation, so it is important to pay attention to it. If you cannot abide in the mind (17), focus your attention on any suitable object outside, such as trees, pebbles, Buddha statues, butter lamps, the sky, etc., focus on watching, do not think about the color and shape of the object, etc., avoid both extremes of being too tense and too loose, just use it as an object of focus and keep it undistracted. Completely cut off the spread of all other thoughts, or visualize the essence of the body, speech, and mind of all Buddhas, which are the white seed syllable ཨོ༚་(Tibetan: ཨོ༚, Devanagari: ओ, Romanized Sanskrit: oṃ, literal meaning: Om), the red seed syllable ཨཱ (Tibetan: ཨཱ, Devanagari: आ, Romanized Sanskrit: āḥ, literal meaning: Ah), the blue seed syllable ཧཱུྃ་ (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Devanagari: हूँ, Romanized Sanskrit: hūṃ, literal meaning: Hum), or visualize white, red, and blue bindus, etc., draw or visualize them in front of you as appropriate. In short, for any suitable image, choose the method that is easiest to abide in and focus on it with all your attention. The way to abide should not be artificial in any way, do not cling to anything with conceptual thoughts, if the mind can abide, let it abide, if it wants to go, let it go, do not frown, let it be natural. Completely cut off all traces of thoughts such as wanting to practice, not wanting to practice, hoping that the mind can abide, and worrying that the mind will not abide (18), there is nothing to practice, do not let the mind be distracted for even a moment, firmly remember with mindfulness, alternate meditation and rest, each time should be short but frequent, maintain clarity, focus, and joy, abide repeatedly, interrupt repeatedly, do not feel bored, it is very important to learn this. If it is easy to focus on any one object, focus on it. If you want to gradually focus on all objects, that is also fine. If you can focus on one, that is enough, you do not need to focus on all objects like learning the alphabet. In short, focus on any one image, this is the second point. On this basis, gradually focus on the objects of the ear—sound, the objects of the nose—smell, the objects of the tongue—taste, the objects of the body—touch, etc. For sounds, smells, etc., focus on the clarity of the sound, the fragrance of the smell, and nothing more. Do not let the mind be distracted, grab it with the iron hook of mindfulness, and maintain the natural state, do not make any judgments of good or bad, big or small, etc. (19), focus on any one, clearly and attentively cut off thoughts, rest, and do not let it be confused. Between each meditation session
