It is said that all appearances are primordially and truly free from one and many, so the Dharmakaya is spontaneously accomplished, and one should not expect any results. Thus it is said. Je Gotsangpa said: All these appearances are your own mind. Although they appear, they have no inherent nature, like reflections in a mirror or the moon in water, so let go of them without grasping. There is no need to negate appearances. If you abide in non-grasping, that is the Great Seal. Protect it without distraction. That is enough. Thus it is said. In general, the appearance of various things is your own mind. Since appearance and emptiness are primordially inseparable, there is no need to hold awareness within. That is, when a form appears in the field of the eye, that appearance is your own mind. Form and emptiness are inseparable. By spontaneously resting in non-grasping on the form, the grasped and the grasper are liberated in their own place. Similarly, when sound, smell, taste, touch, and phenomena move in the mind, by resting in the very moment of their movement, they are naturally liberated. Therefore, instead of meditating on awareness, meditate on non-grasping on the objects of the six external senses, so that the six consciousnesses arise as meditation and progress is made. It is also necessary not to be bound by the thought, "I am in retreat." It is enough not to look outward yourself, and not to grasp at the fact that others are looking at you. In short, emptiness is meditated upon in order to eliminate whatever harms awareness. If you are sick, meditate on the sickness itself. If you are hungry, meditate on the hunger itself. If you are cold, meditate on the cold itself. If you are unhappy, meditate on the unhappiness itself, so that all circumstances arise as meditation. Why is this? Because the appearance of circumstances is itself your own mind. Because without mind there is no Dharmakaya. By meditating in this way, there is no way not to progress. The nature of mind is emptiness, there is no need to deliberately meditate, and it is inevitable to abide in a state of non-meditation without distraction. Thus it is said. The accomplished Orgyenpa said: From the standpoint of appearance and awareness, appearance refers to the manifestation of the alaya, which transcends the realm of speech, thought, knowledge, and expression, on the five sense doors. That is, form in the field of the eye, sound in the field of the ear, smell in the field of the nose, taste in the field of the tongue, and touch in the field of the body—all these are non-conceptual.

It remains in an unindicated state. The mind that follows the five senses transforms and manifests inconceivable high and low appearances, which are called appearances. Attachment to these appearances causes wandering in samsara. The cause of attachment is also the power of the habitual imprints of the deluded mind, accumulated since beginningless time, which causes these diverse appearances. Things are not truly established, not even as small as a sesame seed. For example, in a dream, the appearances of habitual imprints manifest various experiences of pleasure and pain, but things are not truly established. Upon awakening, one realizes that they are not real. Or, countless illusory horses, elephants, and so on appear, but they do not appear because they are truly established; rather, they are false appearances arising from the power of illusory substances and mantras. Similarly, the appearances of the habitual imprints of the deluded mind appear as real or permanent, but the one who perceives them does not exist apart from one's own mind. What is called awareness is also the same master who, through the consciousness of the five senses, grasps at objects. There is not even a moment when awareness apart from appearances is established. Therefore, appearances are awareness, and awareness is appearances. As it says in the sutra: Form is emptiness. Emptiness is form. Form is not other than emptiness. Emptiness is also not other than form. It is said. Furthermore, it says: As appearances arise, do not meditate on anything, do not make any alterations, but simply relax and abide without distraction, and the realization of union will arise on top of the appearances, leading to ease and bliss. There, it is not necessary to negate appearances, nor is it necessary to establish emptiness. Although appearances appear as many, they are of one taste in the essence of one mind, so many are of one taste. Appearances do not remain outside, and awareness does not remain inside, so union is manifested. By continuously cultivating that, one taste manifests as many, like spreading silk brocade when the sun of interdependence is at its zenith. It also says: In the "Great Seal Explanation: Hundred Thousand Verses" by Je Mikyö Dorje, it says: "This Kagyü tradition holds the Dharma principle 'Conceptual thought is the Dharmakaya, and appearances are one's own mind' as the most important heart essence, and makes it the supreme Dharma. Therefore, fortunate individuals should strive to practice this Dharma principle as much as possible, with the superior ones realizing it, the intermediate ones practicing it, and even the inferior ones making an effort to practice it with just the wisdom of understanding."
