Through meditation, all external environments, bodies, and minds appear as the self-manifestation of this single mind, transcending the realm of conceptual thought such as one and different, being inexpressible, inconceivable, and beyond words, free from the extremes of elaboration and all mental constructs. When this is directly realized, and all the characteristics of the object of meditation and the meditator naturally dissolve, it is called the direct seeing of the self-manifest face of the co-emergent Dharmakaya of mind, or the attainment of perfect Buddhahood. If it is not like this, no matter how one speaks of one and different, existence and non-existence, substance and non-substance, mind and matter, knowledge and non-knowledge, yes and no, emptiness and non-emptiness, object and subject, permanent and impermanent, grasping and being grasped, arising and ceasing, going and coming, etc., in reality, nothing is established except the self-manifestation of mind itself. If one clings to something that is not established as being established, then one has turned away from the meaning of reality. The two, one and different, are also interdependent; because different is not established, one cannot be established either. However, if one merely thinks that appearance, awareness, and emptiness are inseparable, of one taste, then there is no contradiction in saying it is one, just as fire and heat, or the moon's reflection in water and water are inseparable. Therefore, when guiding beginners and debaters, it is necessary to ask questions, etc., in order to examine whether they have determined that appearance is mind. When cultivating one's own practice, there is no need to engage in so much elaborate examination; instead, one should rest naturally and relaxedly without modification on whatever appears, so that one can realize that appearance is mind, and extraordinary experiences of realization will arise. Otherwise, if one uses the reasoning of one and many to determine and meditate on mentally constructed emptiness, it is not appropriate here, and one will commit the fault of emptiness falling into the object of knowledge. Therefore, in this case, do not engage in any mentally constructed meditation, but in a state free from hope and fear, relax and let go, and cultivate in a state of non-attachment and non-modification; this is the most important thing. As Guru Rinpoche said: Mind and appearance exist like fire and heat. All these appearances are the self-radiance or the light of mind. Dakpo Rinpoche also said: Appearance and mind are one. There is no appearance separate from mind. All these appearances are the light of mind or the

Since it is the nature of reality, when the mind is realized, appearances will self-liberate. Mind-essence and the nature of reality are one, because the light of mind-essence is the nature of reality, so realizing mind-essence, the nature of reality will self-liberate, just like when the sun rises, the light will not disappear, the sun's light will definitely radiate outwards, this is inevitable. Similarly, merely realizing mind-essence, the nature of reality will also be naturally realized. When the mind is purified, appearances will also naturally be purified. Therefore, keep appearances and mind-essence etc. as they are, and it is enough to meditate on the nature of the mind. When meditating, put aside Dharma and the nature of reality, and meditate on the nature of the mind, like an old woman pointing at her nose. Alternatively, determine that all internal and external phenomena are mind-essence, and then meditate on the nature of the mind, these two are the same. If you meditate on the basis of the nature of reality, but do not find the nature of the mind, then meditation will not lead to Buddhahood. Wind and mind are one. Because of the movement of the wind, various thoughts of the mind arise, it exists in such a way that it cannot be said to be neither this nor that, when the mind is realized, it will naturally be purified. It is the non-dual, luminous emptiness that is co-emergent. Just as mind-essence co-emergent is the Dharmakaya, appearances co-emergent is the light of the Dharmakaya, like sandalwood and the fragrance of sandalwood, inseparable. Furthermore, Jowo Gong Shang also said: "Like this, appearances also do not exist independently of the mind, this is merely a convenient way of speaking to regard all appearances as the mind. Mind-essence, due to the power of conditions, like bubbles in water, manifests in various colors. Appearances are conditioned. All thoughts and concepts, like clouds in the sky, have no origin, dwelling place, or destination, they are rootless. All experiences of pleasure, pain, and equanimity, like experiencing pleasure and pain in a dream, have no basis. All phenomena of samsara and nirvana, like all rivers such as the Ganges and the Pakshu, eventually merge into the ocean, becoming one, there is no difference, so samsara and nirvana are of one taste." Furthermore, all concepts have no color or shape etc., so they are naturally accomplished in the nature of reality.
