Absorbed in me, with the thought that one's own body, speech, and mind are inseparable from the body, speech, and mind of the refuge, release the mind without artifice into its natural state. In the clear and bright state, remain evenly without focusing on anything or scattering anywhere. If conceptual thoughts arise, recite: By this merit, may I quickly, attain the state of Mahamudra, may every single being without exception, be placed in that state. Thus, seal it with the dedication of merit, and then engage in conduct. This is the Dharma session and the eighth practice. In general, there are two types of mind generation: the lesser vehicle mind generation and the great vehicle mind generation. The first is the generation of the mind of enlightenment for the sake of wanting peace and happiness for oneself, which is a narrow path, because it is said in the sutras: "The hearers and the self-realized ones are permanent obstacles to attaining enlightenment." and "Without skillful means and wisdom, one will fall into the path of the hearers." Therefore, one cannot attain ultimate enlightenment with just the enlightenment of the hearers and the self-realized ones. Therefore, here one must strive to cultivate the great vehicle mind generation, and for that great vehicle mind generation, there are also divisions from the perspective of essence, definition, causes and conditions, classifications, boundaries, etc. First, from the perspective of essence, it is divided into the great vehicle conventional mind generation and the ultimate mind generation. In the Explanation of the Thought Sutra, it says: "The mind of enlightenment is also of two types: the ultimate mind of enlightenment and the conventional mind of enlightenment." The definition is: the wisdom that aims at complete enlightenment for the benefit of others is the definition of the great vehicle conventional mind generation. In the Ornament of Clear Realization, it says: "The generation of the mind is for the sake of others, desiring perfect enlightenment." There are many ways to describe the causes and conditions, but in short, they are: having faith in the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, having compassion for sentient beings, and being completely embraced by a virtuous friend. As it says in the sutras: "Its root is considered to be compassion, constantly thinking of benefiting sentient beings." And in the Konchok Tala Sutra, it says: "Having faith in the Buddha and the Dharma of the Buddha, having faith in the conduct of the Bodhisattvas, having faith in the unsurpassed enlightenment, such great beings will generate the mind of enlightenment." And in the Condensed Sutra, it says: "The Buddhas and the Dharma rely on virtuous friends." Qualities

The Victorious One, supreme over all, spoke thus. In terms of classification, there are twenty-two types of bodhicitta, from earth-like bodhicitta to cloud-like bodhicitta. As stated in the Ornament, "That is, earth, gold, moon, without," up to "twenty-two aspects." Alternatively, there are four types of bodhicitta: practice with faith, pure superior intention, maturation, and abandonment of obscurations. As stated in the Ornament of the Sutras, "Bodhicitta in the grounds, faith and superior intention, purity and maturation, likewise, abandonment of obscurations." Thus it is said. Their boundaries are: among the bodhicittas of earth, etc., the first three are included in the ground of the first practitioner. After that, one is included in the path of joining. Then, ten are included in the ten grounds. After that, five are included in the differentiated paths of the ten grounds. The last three are included in the Buddha ground. The latter four, such as faith, are included in the first practitioner, the seven impure grounds, the three pure grounds, and the Buddha ground. Furthermore, bodhicitta is like a king, like a shepherd, and like a ferryman. There are also two types: aspiration and engagement. As stated in the Engaging in Bodhisattva Behavior, "Bodhicitta, in brief, should be known as twofold: the aspiration for bodhi and the engagement in bodhi." Thus it is said. The difference between the two is like the difference between wanting to go to perfect bodhi and actually going. As stated in the Engaging in Bodhisattva Behavior, "Just as the difference between wanting to go and actually going, likewise, the wise should know the difference between these two in sequence." Thus it is said. Alternatively, aspiration is taking a vow focusing on the result, while engagement is taking a vow focusing on the cause. The object of focus is focusing on the benefit of bodhi and sentient beings. The first is focusing on seeking the wisdom of the Great Vehicle. As stated in the Ornament of the Sutras, "Likewise, focusing on seeking that wisdom." Thus it is said. Focusing on sentient beings is focusing on sentient beings as vast as the sky, generating bodhicitta in order to eliminate their suffering. As stated in the Excellent Conduct, "As far as the extent of space reaches, all sentient beings are likewise without limit. As far as the limit of karma and afflictions, my aspiration is likewise without limit.
