Bhapo. In the Garland of Jewels, it says: "Desire, hatred, fear, and ignorance, whichever does not abandon the Dharma, that person is called faithful, and is undoubtedly the best vessel." Therefore, not abandoning the Dharma due to attachment, hatred, ignorance, etc., is also considered having faith. The benefit is that it can generate the mind of a superior person, abandon the eight unfavorable conditions, etc., and has immeasurable benefits. If one has faith, then the Tathagatas will also come to him and teach the Dharma. In the Jewel Heap Sutra, it says: "Having faith in the Buddha and the Buddha's teachings, having faith in the conduct of the Buddha's sons, having faith in the unsurpassed Bodhi, one will generate the mind of a great person." Also, in the Bodhisattva Pitaka Sutra, it says: "Thus, the Bodhisattva who abides in faith, the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, knowing that he is a vessel of the Buddha's teachings, will come to him and truly reveal the Bodhisattva path." Thus, having obtained a human body and possessing faith at this time, do not waste it on unwholesome and neutral things, but must diligently engage in virtuous deeds. Otherwise, even if you have not accumulated obvious sins of body and speech, if the unwholesome thoughts in your mind cannot be controlled and continue to arise, then the ripening result will lead to not knowing where you will be reborn in the next life. As the sutra says: "Virtuous deeds have not been cultivated, but evil deeds have been accumulated, even after hundreds of thousands of kalpas, one will not hear the name of a good realm." As it is said, if one falls into the eight unfavorable places, what should be done? Therefore, before generating a true understanding and conviction of this difficult-to-obtain, easily perishable, and beneficial leisure human body, one should practice. Even if one knows that the leisure human body is difficult to obtain, but does not diligently engage in virtuous deeds, then what is the point of obtaining this difficult-to-obtain leisure human body? Therefore, like extinguishing a fire burning on one's head, with great diligence, day and night, one should strive to hear, think, and meditate, protect the three trainings like one's eyes, and it is very important to diligently cultivate the mind of Bodhicitta. In short, one should practice like this: this precious leisure human body is extremely difficult to obtain and extremely easy to perish, therefore, from today onwards, one should continuously perform virtuous deeds without any laziness. This is the object of focus and the first Dharma category. The second is death and impermanence.

Meditation is: The Teacher said, "Monks, all compounded things are impermanent." How is it impermanent? In the Dhammapada it says, "All accumulations will end, what is erected will fall, what meets will separate, and life will end in death." And, "Alas! Conditioned things are impermanent, they are of the nature of arising and ceasing." Therefore, all conditioned things are impermanent and changing, so life is also impermanent. Moreover, in the external world, there are also the three periods of kalpas, formation, duration, and destruction, the changes of years, months, days, meals, morning, afternoon, day, night, and the four seasons, etc., which change and are impermanent in every moment. As it says in the *Commentary on the Extensive Treatise*, "The three realms are impermanent, like clouds in the sky." The sentient beings within, from birth to old age, etc., the three doors of body, speech, and mind do not stay still for even a moment, but remain in a state of change. In particular, the lifespan of the people of the southern continent of Jambudvipa is uncertain, and due to many sudden causes, they will die uncertainly. As it says in the Dhammapada, "Some die in the womb, likewise some at the place of birth, likewise some when crawling, likewise some when running around. Some are old, some are young, some are in their prime, gradually going to their end." When death comes, this life's wealth, fame, power, and riches are of no help, and because one has done things that will cause harm later, it becomes meaningless and empty, and at the time of death, various worries will arise in one's mind. As it says, "When the time of death comes, children will not be a refuge, neither father nor mother, nor relatives and friends, there is no refuge for you." Therefore, I will surely die, it is uncertain when I will die, I will die quickly, I will die without time to purify my sins, I will die unwillingly before my tasks are finished, and I will die without the help of this life's enjoyments, power, wealth, and strength. The reason why I will surely die is that in the past, my own parents, neighbors, fellow countrymen, monasteries, and mountain retreats, how many relatives, friends, and acquaintances who lived like this, striving and diligently preparing for this life, but in the end they were not successful, they did not accomplish it, and they said he died, she died, etc.
