How is it empty of the Buddha? These fools are the eight unfree states. And the ten endowments are: to be human, born in the central land, with complete faculties, not having reversed the limits of karma, and having faith in the Dharma. These are the five self-endowments. The Buddha has appeared, the Dharma has been taught, the teachings abide, and there are followers of them, and cherishing love for others. These are the five other-endowments, making ten in total. Having these, it is called the precious human body endowed with eight freedoms and ten endowments. Because it is difficult to obtain and of great benefit, it is called precious because it is like a jewel and the Dharma. In particular, in the Vajrayana path, attaining enlightenment in one lifetime is definitely only possible with the human body of Jambudvipa, which possesses the six elements, this Vajra body. Such a body is the result of previously practicing virtue, abandoning evil, and accumulating merit, so such a body is extremely rare. In relation to what is it difficult to obtain? Among the eight states of unfreedom, this precious human body, which allows one to practice the holy Dharma, is extremely rare, so this leisure and opportunity of a human body that we have now to practice Dharma is like a star in the daytime. What is difficult to obtain? This precious human body endowed with eight freedoms and ten endowments. In what way is it difficult to obtain? The three lower realms are like dust particles of the great earth, and merely obtaining a human body is like dust on a fingernail, so obtaining this supreme human body now is like: A blind turtle's neck fitting into a yoke floating on the great ocean. Obtaining a human body is extremely difficult. Chandra Gomi also said: Having obtained it, one can cross the ocean of samsara, and sow the seeds of supreme enlightenment, which has more qualities than a wish-fulfilling jewel. Who would make such a human body fruitless? Whatever is obtained by humans with great mental strength, that path is not obtained by gods and nagas, not by asuras, garudas, vidyadharas, kimnaras, or those who crawl on their bellies. And as it says in the Bodhicharyavatara: This leisure and opportunity is extremely difficult to obtain. Having obtained it, one can accomplish great benefit. And as it says in the Bodhisattva Pitaka: It is difficult to become human, it is difficult to obtain human life, it is difficult to obtain the holy Dharma, and it is difficult for a Buddha to appear. And in the Heart

Je Padkar also said, "It is difficult to be born as a human, it is difficult to obtain a leisure and endowment, it is difficult for a Buddha to appear in the world, it is difficult to have a desire for virtuous Dharma, and it is difficult to have a correct aspiration." This is in accordance with what is said limitlessly in the sutras and tantras. Therefore, one must regard the body as a boat, a horse, and a servant, so as to liberate and escape from the ocean of samsara and its dangerous straits. It must be used for virtuous deeds. As it is said, "Relying on the boat of the human body, one is liberated from the great river of suffering. This boat is difficult to obtain later, do not fall asleep in times of delusion." And, "Riding the horse of a pure human body, escape from the dangerous straits of samsaric suffering." And, "This body of all people, is only to be used." As it is said. Although the human body appears to be without defects, if the mind of faith does not arise in the continuum, it is like a seemingly endowed animal holding a human form. If there is a mind of faith in the continuum, even if the temporary senses are not completely perfect, there is no need to worry too much, because it is a supreme basis. As it is said in the Great Vehicle, "Those who dwell in samsara with little faith, cannot understand the enlightenment of the Buddhas." And, as it is said in the sutra, "For those who have no faith, white qualities do not arise, just as a seed burned by fire, cannot grow a blue sprout." Therefore, as it is said in the sutra, "Ananda, strive for faith! This is the prayer made by the Tathagata." And regarding faith, it is said in the Abhidharma, "What is faith? It is complete trust, desire, and joy in actions and their results, truths, and the Jewels." Therefore, there are the faith of joy, the faith of trust, and the faith of desire. Among these, the first is: relying on the object of the Jewels, having faith and joy in the Three Jewels and the Guru. The second is: believing that the result of virtuous actions is the happiness of the desire realm, the result of non-virtuous actions is suffering, the result of unwavering actions is the happiness of the upper realms, and relying on actions and afflictions, obtaining the five aggregates of suffering as a result. In short, it is believing in cause and effect. The third is: in order to obtain unsurpassed enlightenment, learning the path with respect.
