Thus is stealing. After stealing, the body changes, and for the sake of stealing, decreasing or increasing steps, returning to a place unseen by the owner, denying having borrowed words and images, and when one does not want to return them, premeditating with a stealing mind before speaking. Denying after moving, stealing while gambling, when winning in front of officials, when winning gambling in front of ministers, and when the other party gives up due to generosity, when losing a bet but not yet lost, through one's own or another's field by diverting or preventing water, and making the thieves who share the loot aware of the road conditions, cutting off the lifeblood of horses and cattle, etc., and actually shooting poison arrows into the sky with a stealing mind, etc., are gross offenses of preparation. Incomplete value, ownerless treasures, thinking it is one's own, thinking it is another being's, when one person entrusts it to another but neither claims ownership, the wealth of nirvana without remainder, items from the cemetery, wealth with unpleasant sounds, making someone poor with secret mantras, and other (16b) wasted property, withering orchards, etc., with mantras, causing hail, etc., on crops, enjoying what is borrowed without cherishing it, and stealing because one thinks it exists even though it is ownerless, etc., are gross offenses of the actual deed. The downfall of preparation is: from the time a stealing mind arises until the actual act of stealing is not committed, it is an evil deed to be restrained; taking things with body and speech, etc., until actually touching the thing, it is an evil deed to be confessed. For example: reducing steps to steal, before not being discovered, each step is an evil deed; merely untying from the stake of a boat for the sake of stealing, stealing Buddha images, etc., merely for the sake of offering, betting on numbers, calculations, and decorations, etc., erasing or adding marks, placing marks in other places, claiming rights for those who have no rights, taking broken things without informing, not telling the method of not paying gambling and boat rental fees, releasing animals caught by hunters merely out of compassion, etc., are all evil deeds. What should be learned is: spying on what others enjoy, and generating desire for what is not a place of desire, merely hand gestures and merit.

Working for mere wages without sincerity, picking up lost items of others without the intention to steal and hiding them for a long time, not handing over items unknown to the owner to the monastic supervisor, etc., a doctor taking medicine without the patient's permission, taking possession of property owned by others even though one is free, forcibly demanding payment for teaching the Dharma even though one is unwilling to part with robes, etc., taken by thieves, eating without being invited, picking up lost items of others without checking whether someone has claimed them, taking clothes from unclaimed corpses, destroying bird nests, accepting offerings from those known as robbers, and directly appropriating items obtained from fame without changing their color, etc. It is wrong to enter a dwelling where a hunted animal has died and not give the corpse to the hunter; doing so is a misdeed. Here, there are six types of stealing: forcibly seizing something like forcibly taking it, not paying wages is like defaulting, stealing without being noticed is like deception, not repaying debts is like reneging, not returning entrusted items is like concealing, and stealing scriptures for offerings or for sparrows are the six types. Among these six, the earlier ones constitute a defeat if the value is sufficient. Third, one must not kill a person: Furthermore, if any bhikshu intentionally kills a human being or a being that has taken human form with his own hand, or gives him a weapon, or provides him with a place to kill, or causes him to die, or even praises death to him, such as saying to the bhikshu: 'Alas, man, what is the use of this sinful, impure, ugly life of yours? Alas, man, it is better for you to die than to live!', and so on, causing him to die in various ways with the desires and thoughts of his mind, or praising death to him, if this person dies as a result, then this bhikshu has also committed a defeat and must not live together. This precept should be proclaimed. In this regard, a bhikshu who possesses the basis of support, the basis of the object is a person other than himself or a being that has taken human form, without confusion in thought, the motivation is initiated by the desire to kill, even if it is well-intentioned, the action is poison, weapons, spells, etc., means of death, even the smallest subsequent action, whether at that time or later.
