Speaking: If someone asks, how should one respond to those who say there are many obstacles to establishing whether the knowable is in accordance with or not in accordance with dependent origination, using reasoning? The answer is: one does not need to state the subject, reason, and example. Merely saying, "The pervasion contradicts you," is a correct response, and it defeats the pride of the opponent. That is because the pervasion is not established for you, and if you wonder how it contradicts, it is because you yourselves assume that there is a valid means of proof that is truly existent, and with that, you boast of establishing a truly existent object to be proven, which is not established. Because it goes from establishing the unestablished with the unestablished, in effect, you have blocked the true existence of the object to be proven. Therefore, the extent to which the realists argue against the Madhyamikas is only this much (397a), and nothing more is said. This is the unsurpassed answer of the Prasangikas. The realists say, "Therefore, the wise answer with Prasangika, blocking with the four doors of liberation." This is a way of answering that is even more excellent than that. Furthermore, there is doubt like this: how are these phenomena encompassed by the two truths, as knowables, in terms of their existence or non-existence? Regarding that, from the perspective of the Madhyamikas themselves, let alone when analyzing these phenomena encompassed by the two truths, even when speaking without analysis, one does not say of these phenomena encompassed by the two truths, "This is a truly existent knowable, and this is non-existent." However, if one speaks in accordance with the views of others in the world, then without analysis, one says that all phenomena encompassed by the two truths can be known by the mind. That is to say, those who proclaim the Madhyamika beyond the world, in order to tame those to be tamed, without analysis, also imitate the worldly saying that "the knowable is in accordance with dependent origination, like an illusion," and only say this much in front of them. For example, the conventional truth that arises from non-afflicted ignorance is like an illusion and a dream. The phenomena of the two truths, which are relative and imputed, encompassed by the conventional truth known to the noble ones, are truly existent as knowables in name. And others, the conventional truth defiled by afflicted ignorance, and that which is defiled by the ignorance that is the immediate cause of error, such as seeing a white conch as yellow, are not truly existent knowables that are free from error. That is what is said. Having understood this meaning (397b), may virtue increase!

Geshe Ne'u Zurpa said in the Lamrim of the Three Individuals: For the subject, the conventional dharma like an illusion, the non-inverted realization that completely relies on the mind that grasps the conventional, reaching the ultimate perfection, is the wisdom of the post-attainment of the tenth ground bodhisattva. Therefore, its object and subject are the true conventional, so the characteristic of the true conventional is that only the post-attainment of the tenth ground bodhisattva is the knowable that truly exists. Other conventional dharmas are not true knowables. The great accomplished Machik Jangchub Tsondru said: After attaining the ground, the scope of conventional appearances becomes wider and wider, so illusions become more and more intense. All true conventional dharmas will appear before the tenth ground bodhisattva. Once the wisdom of the Buddha is attained, the mind's activity towards conventional dharmas will subside, and illusions will be completely cut off. Furthermore, those who say that the conventional truth arises from afflictive ignorance, that is, the conventional known to children, think that the conventional like an illusion, and the conventional like grasping one moon as two moons, which is deluded by the temporary cause of illusion—ignorance, is not the non-inverted true knowable. But the fire as the signifier, its nature is true, the thing with the characteristics of burning, etc., its nature is true, this is the true knowable that exists. They think and say like this. In addition, in the view of madmen and others who are deluded by the temporary cause of illusion—ignorance, the illusionary dharmas such as friends appearing as enemies, water appearing as fire, etc., are true knowables. Apart from that, they do not consider the fundamental and temporary non-inverted dharmas as true knowables. In this way, the object and subject that are deluded by the temporary cause of illusion—ignorance, are both knowables in that person's view. Because if the causes of illusion like object and subject do not gather, the illusionary consciousness that grasps the appearance of the object knowable will not arise. If this kind of reasoning is not understood, in the Madhyamaka writings of Gungru, who is proficient in the Madhyamaka view of the great Tsongkhapa, it says: The conceptual thought that grasps sound as permanent, and the self-grasping, etc., are also impossible without their own appearing object, so relying on the power of measuring their own appearing object to establish themselves, this is the same as before.
