It is established there by the reason of dependent origination, which is also valid in its busy nature. Therefore, saying that eyes, etc., are empty of eyes, it is said that emptiness is fully manifest; because it is empty of the inner agent, this is the Hearer school; being empty of the nature of grasper and grasped, this is the emptiness of the Mind-Only school, like this, the emptiness of one not possessing the other is not emptiness. So how do these Dharma schools explain the principle of emptiness? The schools that assert the existence of a person consider the base of emptiness to be the person and aggregates, etc., above the Dharma, such as the self, which is permanent, single, and independent, as conceived by outsiders, as well as the results of actions, and the absence of past and future lives, etc., to be empty of the extremes of permanence and annihilation. (327a) The Vaibhashikas, who do not accept the person, consider the base of emptiness to be the three times of Dharma and the unconditioned, which are included in the aggregates, elements, and sources, to be empty of the extremes of permanence and annihilation, such as the person established by outsiders and schools that assert the existence of a person. They say that the five bases of knowledge that are empty of these exist by their own nature. Furthermore, the Sutra school considers the base of emptiness to be the present aggregates, elements, and sources, form, mind, and that which is included in mind, to be empty of the self and the extremes of permanence and annihilation established by outsiders and schools that assert the existence of a person, as well as the past and future substantially existent, etc., established by the Vaibhashikas, and the non-associated formations, substantially existent, and unconditioned, etc. They assert that the indivisible atom and the momentary indivisible consciousness that are empty of these are true. The Truthful-Aspect Mind-Only school considers the base of emptiness to be the present momentary consciousness, together with the aspect of the object, to be empty of all persons and dharmas established by outsiders and hearers, and they do not consider the other-powered and non-dual self-awareness, the perfectly established, to be empty of this. The False-Aspect school considers the base of emptiness to be the other-powered, which is the object of mere clear awareness and experience, to be empty of all selves established by outsiders and hearers, and the Truthful-Aspect school considers it to be empty of all the stains of the established aspects. The other-powered, which is the object of mere consciousness, which is devoid of these, is substantially established, and the suchness, the non-dual (327b) reality, is perfectly established.

is the Mind-Only school, which believes that it is non-different from that and exists in reality, while Tsongkhapa believes that on the objects established by conventional valid cognition, there is emptiness devoid of the object of negation of the sign, and that emptiness is established on that basis. Therefore, the emptiness of those who assert entities is that the imputed dharmas are empty of their own natures, but all the subjects of emptiness are considered to be true, and their emptiness is also the same as the nature of the dharma, or exists in a state that cannot be expressed as the same or different from it, so neither the subject nor the nature of the dharma is empty of its own nature, and it is empty of other objects of negation, so like the emptiness of the outsiders, it is only a temporary nominal emptiness, not the true emptiness that can serve as the basis of the path to liberation, if the subject and the nature of the dharma are truly existent, then it is impossible to abandon the mind of clinging to reality to them, and if those are not abandoned, then it is impossible to abandon the seeds of afflictions and cognitive obscurations. The Madhyamaka Svatantrika is that if one examines with the wisdom that investigates ultimate truth, one cannot find even a little of the basis of emptiness, the dharma of emptiness, emptiness and non-emptiness, the subject and the nature of the dharma, etc., so all dharmas are pacified from all elaboration and characteristics, but this nature of appearance of objects and mind like illusion, which cannot be refuted by the wisdom that investigates conventional truth, is made the basis of emptiness in conventional truth, and in ultimate truth, it is considered empty of all the imputed dharmas by those who assert internal and external entities, this also (328a) depends on the emptiness of those who assert entities, all dharmas are empty of their own natures, and in the face of correct hearing, thinking, and meditation, or in the face of the samadhi of the Mahayana noble ones, it is considered that all elaboration and characteristics are pacified, so it is extremely superior, and can serve as the basis of the path to liberation, and can also serve as the antidote to the two obscurations, however, even so, this also has the appearance of objects and mind, if it appears in the samadhi of the Mahayana noble ones in conventional truth, then those appearances can be examined by reason, or become ultimate truth, or the samadhi also becomes confused, and if it does not appear, then the dharmas are not empty in conventional truth, but the samadhi makes them empty, so the samadhi becomes a slander of the dharmas in conventional truth.
