Children (322b) speak of conventional truth in a way that contradicts dependent arising and terminology, established by conceptual thought, so the nature of conventional truth is merely conventional illusion. In order to dispel the doubt of mistaking the nature of what is apprehended, which is extremely obscured by inverted clinging, as its own nature, the conventional truth spoken by yogis, in accordance with the terminology of dependent arising, is established by conceptual thought, so the nature of conventional truth is not truly established. Because the nature of form, etc., is an unreal conventional illusion produced by causes and conditions, except for the nature of emptiness where self is not perceived, it is declared in the presence of the aforementioned conceptual establishment. In this way, the ultimate nature that is falsely attributed as self-nature to what is without self-nature is also established as the self-nature of the Madhyamaka self-system. However, it is not established there either. If it were, it would become a Madhyamaka that establishes illusion. If there were a nature of emptiness like a conventional illusion, then it should exist in the object and subject of the samadhi wisdom of learners and non-learners. However, there is no sight of the nature of the two truths there at all. In that case, what is the contradiction that you expect? Therefore, when other children grasp what is not self-nature as self-nature, the worldly conventional truth of yogis, in relation to that, declares the opposite nature in that. Although the nature of such a declaration is not established as self-nature, it is falsely attributed as self-nature, and in order to dispel the self-nature established by other children, even in conventional terminology, it is falsely attributed as such a self-nature (323a), and it is declared in a veiled manner. Otherwise, the nature of the two truths would not be established at all. Therefore, it is not said to be empty, nor is it said to be not empty, it is not said to be two, nor is it said to be non-two, it is declared for the sake of imputation. As it is said: "Not empty, nor not empty, neither existent nor non-existent, neither unborn nor born." The Heart Sutra says: "In reality there is no duality, therefore it is not empty, not not empty, not existent, not non-existent, not unborn, not born." And so on, the Blessed One said. Therefore, if the ultimate truth is not established as emptiness, then emptiness

also cannot be found. In the commentary on the Two Truths, it says: Therefore, in the nature of conventional entities, the nature of permanence and annihilation exists only remotely. For the ultimate truth, it is only an unapproachable place of observation. For the unborn nature itself: Where is permanence and annihilation? The differentiation of phenomena is the discrimination of self-nature. Just as no one can write letters in the sky, so too, for things that are unborn, discrimination is the same. Also, the scriptures say: Apart from self-nature and other-nature, where else can things exist? If self-nature and other-nature exist, then things can be established. If things are not established, how can non-things be established? It is said that due to the different dispositions of sentient beings, the Madhyamikas, in order to dispel the wrong views of sentient beings, sometimes say that there is self-nature, sometimes say that there is no self-nature, sometimes say that it is emptiness, (323b) sometimes say that it is not emptiness, sometimes say that there are things, and sometimes say that there are no things. However, the Madhyamikas themselves have never established any elaborations of self-nature, non-self-nature, etc., for the two truths, and they have never violated the principle of making no commitments. Because they do not cling to any side, there is no self-contradiction in their own system. As Master Aryadeva said: Saying existence and non-existence and both existence and non-existence, and neither of the two, is to adapt to the different dispositions of sentient beings. Is it not that everything can become medicine? It is true that it is temporarily beneficial to others, and because it is not beneficial, the other is false. Saying existence and non-existence and both existence and non-existence, there is no clinging to any side. For such a person, even if the time is long, it is impossible to find fault. It is like what was said above. Therefore, the Prasangikas, through their own system, observe that even in conventional terms, they absolutely do not establish the ultimate truth and self-nature as their own system. Because saying that is not recognized by other conventional terms in the world, in order to refute the statement that does not conform to worldly conventions, they can only rely on the statement that conforms to worldly conventions to refute it. Therefore, the Madhyamikas say that. For the Madhyamikas, there is not the slightest intention in saying emptiness and self-nature. Because for the two truths, the expressible and the expression that become self-nature
