and the four immeasurables, and similarly, any other four formless ones, these are said by the truly knowing Buddha to be characterized by immovability and absence of anger. Because they are attained through detachment from desire and abandonment of anger. The second is, the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, are the self-nature of definite emergence. The thirty-seven factors of enlightenment are the cause of transcending samsara, therefore they have the self-nature of being able to definitely emerge from liberation. (346b) The third is, the characteristic of emptiness is, because there is no object, it is the nature of solitude. Absence of characteristics is the nature of peace. The third characteristic is absence of suffering and absence of delusion. The gate of liberation, the characteristic of emptiness, is the characteristic of complete solitude because there is no object of things and it is praised for being close to the stain of discrimination. The gate of liberation, the characteristic of absence of characteristics, is the characteristic of peace from the perspective of not targeting characteristics. The third gate of liberation, the characteristic of absence of aspiration, is the characteristic of absence of suffering and delusion, because when one correctly observes the aggregates that are characterized by suffering and observes the nature of the aggregates with wisdom, there will be no aspiration. Among them, the two selflessnesses are the aspect of emptiness. Because the characteristics of appearance such as form are close to pacification, nirvana is the aspect of absence of characteristics. The contaminated dharmas included in the two, suffering and origin, are the aspect of absence of aspiration. For these three objects, worldly samadhi is called samadhi of emptiness and so on. The transcendental wisdom that takes these as objects, which has the aspect of two selflessnesses, is called the gate of liberation, emptiness, and so on. The fourth is, the characteristics of liberation are complete liberation. The characteristics of the eight liberations are the characteristics of complete liberation because they liberate from the obscurations of absorption. The eight liberations are, a person with form seeing forms is the first liberation. Perceiving that there is no form inside and seeing the forms outside is the second liberation. The beautiful image

The liberation of the fourth dhyana (347a) The one with self-nature is the third. Four formless liberations, and the liberation of cessation of perception and feeling. The first is, in order to be liberated from the obscuration of transformation, relying on the actual basis of dhyana, the yogi abides in the perception of form for himself. Regarding external forms, he cultivates various kinds of likeable, unlikeable, large, and small, which is shamatha and vipassana. The second is, the other is the same as before, the difference is that the yogi himself destroys the perception of form. The third is, in order to be liberated from the obscuration of desire and non-desire for the transformation of likeable and unlikeable forms, relying on the fourth dhyana, the yogi destroys the perception of form for himself, focusing on the three intermediate states of likeable, unlikeable, and neutral. He cultivates these mutually dependent perceptions, and the subsequent related perceptions, ultimately cultivating the likeable as one taste, which is shamatha and vipassana. The four formless liberations are for the purpose of being liberated from the obscuration of savoring one's own samadhi. Among them, the liberation of the sphere of infinite space is cultivated as infinite space during the application phase, and during the actual phase, the shamatha and vipassana with complete clarity on it liberates from the obscuration of savoring one's own samadhi. Similarly, the liberations of infinite consciousness, nothingness, and neither perception nor non-perception (347b) should also be understood accordingly. The eighth is, in order to be liberated from the obscuration of cessation of perception and feeling, relying on the mind of the peak of existence, all gross perception and feeling are ceased. Secondly, there are the ten powers, the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, great love, etc., as well as the unshared qualities of the Buddha, and the six characteristics of the self-nature of omniscience. The first is: The powers are extremely, the nature of determination is spoken. The ten powers to be explained are said to be of the nature of extreme determination, because extreme determination itself is unobstructed. The second is: The fearlessnesses of protection.
